Helen Iwanczuk One of Cirencester's finest pubs
One of the best pubs we have visited in Cirencester, is The Malborough Arms. An attractive stone built facade invites you in to explore further. The interior consists of one room, but it is divided by the wooden furnishings - tables, chairs and floor make it a cosy environment. Sports fans are catered for with large TV screens to keep them occupied. They have a good selection of music in the background. A wide selection of ales and ciders are available. There is no food as such, but they do pies, and sometimes rolls and sandwiches. There is a small open space at the back of the pub (you can't really call it a beer garden!) There is a small bar within this open space, must be nice to sit here of a summer evening. One word of warning though, it can get quite busy when the local students decide to visit the pub. It isn't really a problem though - they don't bite! On 4th January 2017 - rating: 8

Helen Iwanczuk A good honest no nonsense pub
The Drillman's Arms is a rarity in this day and age, it is a no nonsense proper pub. The Drillman's Arms has all the elements of a traditional pub, indeed the front of the pub has the cosy feel of a living room about it. Modern pub goers are catered for with the big screen TV on the wall which was showing a rugby match. There are two other areas, which are located at the rear of the pub, a skittle alley with some dining tables (it can get quite busy at the front of the pub, if you want to dine there). The other room has a small bar, a pool table and dart board. The darts team must be quite accomplished, as there is an impressive selection of cups on display. As previously mentioned, the front part of the pub was busy, so my partner and I, sat in the pool room. We ordered some food, baked potatoes with a chilli con carni filling, which was well cooked. They serve good honest pub grub at the Drillman's. This was washed down with Honeysuckle smash which was in good condition. Other ales available were Commando, Phoenix and Doombar.

Helen Iwanczuk Not too far from the madding crowd!
The Nelson Inn is located just outside of Cirencester town centre. We were looking for a quieter location after the enthusiastic rugby fans we encountered at The Malborough Arms. The Nelson Inn is worth visiting for the interior alone. The Ward Room has the distinction of a bar shaped like an Eighteenth Century Man of War ship. This is further enhanced by a parquet floor, traditional wooden pub furniture and a roaring open fire. It felt like a really cosy place to enjoy a meal, but as we had already eaten at The Drillman's Arms, we just glanced at the menu for future reference. The cosy ambience was briefly interrupted by a wailing toddler, but this did not spoil our experience of The Nelson. The only minor quibble we have, is that Bombardier was the only ale on offer.

Was having a very good night with live djs cheap drinks and a good atmosphere. then when it was time to go home the owner seemed to get headstrong and kicked out a young gentleman for no apparent reason. the bouncers escorted him out and then one of the bouncers wanted to meet him after he finished for a fight. The new owners managed the establishment poorly in this situation and their security staff were very unprofessional. would not recomend for a good night.

I have been to the Trout Inn many times and enjoyed the food on each visit. Very good quality and presentation always lovely. Today we visited at lunch time 22/09/12. The diet coke I had was undrinkable. The veggie burger tasteless. The bread roll was wet and soggy. The salad consisted of lettuce and coleslaw. My husband had a beef burger. Very disappointing. And expensive for cheap rubbish . £ 22

Just wanted to complain about the quality of the food served to me and my family during a recent outing to the Heats of Oak pub in the Forest of Dean. The fish was clearly out of a pack of frozen fish and the chips were oven chips. The veg lasagne was a pile of cold slop in the middle of the plate surrounded by shredded iceberg lettuce. Even the visiting local dogs didnt go for the scraps on the floor. Really wouldnt rate it at all.

Jackie and Rod Welch Great shame, nice ambience nice staff
My wife and I belong to a group of OAPs who go out for a meal together once a month. Having previously popped in for a lunchtime drink and liked the ambience and decor of the place (Grolsch is good), we thought we would do a reconaissance of the senior citizen meals for our group. We called on a Friday, looked at the lunchtime menu, but decided we had better stick to the more limited £5.95 main course and dessert offered for OAPs. My wife ordered cod and chips, I chose steak and ale pie, with new potatoes. After a few minutes the very pleasant waitress advised us that the OAP menu only applied on a Wednesday or Thursday. Therefore we decided to re-order from the main menu but she then advisedthat the chef had already started ccoking. Okay, we thought, we'll stick with our original choice. At £5.95 the cod chips and peas (pud included mind!) would have been more than acceptable. But the beef and ale pie was not very good. However we were expected to pay the full price, £10.95 for the latter! Sorry we will not be recommending this hostelry to our group.

This pub just seems to go downhill. Landlord is rude & arrogant. I have never heard swearing like it before from a landlord, you expect the odd 'F' word but when he sits in the bar with his mates and repeatedly uses the 'C' word, that is not a pleasant word to hear. he was even pulled up on it by one of the locals, but the landlord being what he is just turned round and told him to 'F' off. The sooner this pub changes hands the better. It might then go back to the warm friendly pub I once knew.

I am very shocked to read the previous bad reviews. I have recently started visiting the New Inn and have always found it very friendly. I am most shocked to hear the comments about the landlord as he has always been very welcoming and he has often sat with my friends and I past closing hours, even offering us a lift home when we had walked over from Wotton. There are many pubs in Wotton yet I would choose the New in over all of them and regularly make the trip over. Beautiful surroundings and an excellent range of food and drinks. Can be quiet in the afternoons but I do not find this surprising considering its location, and as it has been said previously, a quiet pub isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Used to live in North Nibley many years ago and took my wife to the Black Horse in October 2006 for old times sake. Booked a table for early evening. Arrived on time and ignored by the restaurant staff. Eventually taken to our table after attracting someone's attention and then had to wait 30 mins before we were offered the menu and were able to order our meal. Asked how long the food would be and the manageress rudely told us that it could be up to an hour as they didn't do fast food . I explained that we had already been waiting half an hour and the attitude was take it or leave it and no apology for the delay. Needless to say we paid for the drinks and left without eating. We appreciate that the pub wanted to make a virtue out of freshly cooked food, however nobody would be prepared to wait for an hour and a half no matter how good the food. I did a straw poll of my friends and none would have been prepared to wait longer than 45mins for their food from arrival. So my advice is start treating your customers with a bit of courtesy and speed up the service or your business will go down the pan.

The anchor normally sells two real ales. The local Freeminer Bitter is always available plus another guest beer. For the cider drinker there is Westons Stowford Press. There is also a reasonable selection of wine. The less discerning customer has a selection of euro fizz and largers to choose from. The food is very good and home cooked. The choice ranges from the usual bar meals to specials that often include rabbit, pidgeon and steak pies. Sunday lunch is well worth trying. A vegitarian option dish is always available, If you talk nicely to the Landlord and give him enough warning he is capable of providing a meal to satisfy the most demanding of customers. There are five bedrooms with a mixture of twin and double rooms including a four poster. An additional bonus is dogs are welcome.

Eighteen or so months ago this pub was a favourite in the Cotswolds, the new management have MANAGED to empty it and with the present attitude there appears little likelyhood that it will change for the better until they move on and it is once more is held by polite, caring people. Had to meet someone here, decided to have a meal after meeting. What can I say? The food was excellent and well presented, I opted for the steak which was cooked perfectly. My husband had the mixed grill - it beat him- there was so much on the plate!! A great selection of wines available and the staff can't do enough for you. Highly reccommended.

This is a beautiful, very old public house in a small and beautiful little village, deep in the Cotswolds. If the traveler is looking for a perfect place for a meal and a pint - or two, or even three! - along with a fine pub meal, they need go no further than The Bakers Arms!

Dave Where is everybody?
Used to visit the New Inn often, but haven't been for a while. Decided to put this right in August and made the effort to walk over 3 or 4 times. Can't believe it was so quiet on some of the best summer evenings we've had. Hardly anybody in the garden and not many inside. I guess the previous comments may have something to do with this.

Pub Explorer. A disaster
Apparently this couple came out of London to make a profit from the good country folk of Gloucestershire, but owing to the landlords attitude they've managed to empty the pub in a little over a year. Such a pity that a wonderful pub is now ruined and almost deserted most nights of the week. Come back someone who can run a pub properly and give us what we want, which is not rudeness and ill manners.

steve d Not worth a visit, if you want food!
I wouldn't go there again. turned up unannounced last Saturday, at 5.30pm, hoping for a meal. Were told they weren't serving food at all until at least 8.30pm as they had a large party in sometime. Had a couple of drinks and left at about 7pm, during which period there was no sign of the large party and, at times, us 4 were the only people in the pub. They could quite easily have catered for us, if only a simple meal. It seems they suffer from the British disease - in other words the customer has to fit in with the wants of the service provider.

Good Beer, pleasant surroundings...but as in a previous comment, the fact many of the local regulars have gone elsewhere (or stay at home) can leave it a little empty at times. Maybe not a bad thing if you're looking for peace and quiet, but it can leave a bit of a flat atmosphere.

Chris Peegey A friendly pub with great beer
Situated in nearby Cam, NOT Dursley, the Berkeley Arms is a real centre of the community, where anything can happen! Graham & Hazel Ponting have run it for the past 15 years, and offer a warm welcome to all, whether locals, or those just passing though. Two well kept cask ales, currently 6X and local brew Wickwar BOB, have earned the pub recognition in the CAMRA Good Beer guide over the last few years. There's live music most weekends, otherwise DJ Graham hits the decks with music from the 50's to the Noughties. Look out for the fire fighting memorabilia, collected by Graham, who is Station Officer for Dursley's retained fire station. If you find yourself in the Cam and Dursley area, a visit to the Berkeley Arms is certainly recommended!

The Owl It has gone down hill!
It is still a good pub, but I was so dissapointed on a recent visit that they have extended it with all the charm of a Swindon housing estate. They're sure to make loads of cash from the exteded dining area, but it is no longer special. No longer the haunt of game keepers and poets, now it's more like IT bods with 'off-road' prams and clean wellies.

Mark Gibbins Honesty! | ||
Finally a pub that has changed ownership, but not purpose! After being lured down the long track to the Tunnel House, it is a welcome surprise not to be faced with 'yet another gastro pub' which seem to be all too common in this area. Don't get me wrong, as a chef, I am all for good food, honest cooking and something interesting and this is exactly what The Tunnel has got right. It's not trying to be clever nor is it trying to go upmarket, its just being a pub. Serving good food, from local ingredients and suppliers, the beers is cold, the wine list is ample and the staff friendly. You don't need anything else. The Tunnel House is what 'pub' are all about, a place to come and have a pint, two pints or more. If you want food, its on offer (and quality without being over priced) and if you don't then you are not made un-welcome. A must!

Middle of nowhere - unless you attend the nearby Agricultural College and/or have suitable motor for terrible access road! That said, the pub is BRILLIANT - even for walkers and those who can only afford non-green wellies .... and adults unfortunate enough to own children! Rated 11/10

Rupert Longsdon A Proper Pub
A pub is an open house to all - hence Public House and this is exactly what The Tunnel House Inn has to offer. You are made to feel welcome whether you arrive by car, horse, cart, bicycle or on foot. Whether you want a pint of bitter, ploughmans or fine food from the daily local menu.
