The comment left in 2009 is unfair. This pub/restaurant is beautiful. We have had many meals here and on a regular basis. Everyone is friendly, the food is fabulous - no faults. The seating outside is lovely, especially in the summer months. However, could do with childrens play area.

 great local pub
just read these descrptions of the swan and can honestly say the people who have commented have truly never been, we have been going for 20 years now and this place was a local hovel , drug den full dust now the best landlords it ever had was zoe and chris from bedlington they came in cleaned the pub and got rid of the druggies , there carvery was large and cheap and the buttered swede was to die for. there was clairvoyants and karaoke on as well as bingo unfortunately they only stayed a year and a half and then surprise surprise another landlord appeared and down hill went the pub miles took over the pub became dirty again and the food was cheap and a comical joke , i think the only enntertainment was going on upstairs in the private flat hmmmmm , this pub has now closed down bloody shame but it was alwayss going to under miles all we can say is if your out there zoe and chris come back we need you

If you want good freshley cooked indiivual food how long would it take you at home to prepare and serve? if you want the kind of food the sun serves you may have to wait but personally it is worth it. IT IS NOT PUB GRUB1111 thankfully.

the sun inn food is excellent i do not know what you eat at home, but your comment is totally out of line, and wrong, why do you think the premises are always always always busy, because the food is the best any where. I am not surprised that you did not leave your name all wind and gusty air to be polite but I shall leave mine, gutless.

 long wait
we have been going to this palce for years now. Food is usually very good sometimes along wait as the staff seat people even when the kitchen is very busy.Better t tell people of the wait or even ask them to dine later.last week waited 1hr 45 min for our food.Told of staff shortage, food was still good. going to try again this week with 10 people hope for quicker service.

 Great Pub
I have been going to the Sun Inn on and off for years. Since the recent owners took over a few years ago they have expanded the dinning area.
There have been occasions when I have come away and thought I may not go back due to the wait for food. However they have a good menu and the food always tastes good.
I went last weekend and really enjoyed my meal. It was quite early (18:30) and the service was friendly and prompt.
They had a band on with fee curry it you had not already ate.
I would recommend this bar to anyone, but bare in mind that if you go when it's really busy you may have a bit of a wait. The food its good though.

I go to the Sun Inn rather a lot as it is very near to my workplace. I eat there at least one weekday lunch time with my work friends and the lunches are always lovely and very good amounts for the cost. The staff are always pleasant. I then went last friday night for the first time and had an evening meal with my other half; it was brill. We order starters and specials, waited 20 mins for starters and then 30 mins between courses which I didn't think was bad when the place was clearly very busy. If anything it gave us time to talk and our starters to settle before our mains. The staff were friendly as always and made sure we didn't need to leave our seats for drinks. After our meals we were offered puds which i normally do not go for untill the waitress told me that some of the new puds were from a local lady and her husband who make anything in house and drop off fresh puds daily. It was fab. Then after our meal at 9pm a live band started which was great, lovely end to the night. This place suprised me on an evening as for a pub the meals are very out there with monkfish and stuffed chichen on their day to day menu, rather then the normal pub grub! The specials are something else all together and well worth a try. I'd tell anyone to give it a go; it will be worth it I promise.

Black Swan at Morpeth, flies galore
We went for Sunday lunch for Mothers day. What an epic! The place was literally full of flies. My Son caught 12 of them in the hour we were there. Food was cold, disgruntled and unhelpful staff and a strange smell permeated the lounge area.

Give this one a miss! (unless you like flea pits).

Plus points? It was cheap and there was plenty of space in the almost empty car park.

I ate at the Sun Inn today, the food was lovely but we waited ages and when I went to the bar for a drink I had to queue and then when it was my turn the barmen served the person behind me and completely ignored me

 Lovely local pub/restaurant
We visit the Sun Inn fairly regularly as it is quite local to us. The food is always superb. Yes, you have to wait some time before you get your meal at times, but that is because it is always fresh, not your frozen rubbish some places sell. Just sit back, have a drink and enjoy the surroundings and company while you wait. The staff are always friendly, polite and helpful. The specials are always worth checking out too.

 sad to see it close
i think it has to be said having been a regular of the bebside for many many years i am sad to see it close, this was the one and only live music bar in blyth who supported live music to the max, great bands, great regulars and great staff, it is such a shame that certain individuals and organisations did not support such a great bar when things did not go there way but are seemingly still overly keen to spread rumours and place comments when they where no longer even regulars to the bar

Sadly another badly run pub AVOID
Upon our arrival, we waited a very long time to get served, and when we did the landlady was very offish and unfriendly. This instantly made us very wary of what to order to eat. We decided on burgers, which when they finally arrived were of poor quality and served on dirty plates. With the recent trend of pubs going out of business, it is so sad that this one with all its character is being run so badly into the ground.

 Absolutely dreadful
Problems with food available. When it did arrive, the portions were small and the food was cold. Retuned the meal at least twice but still not satisfactory. Certainly not worth the 20 for 2 main courses. Have been to this pub many times before and enjoyed excellent food in the past but will not be going back after today.

Called on a Wednesday evening around 8pm. Place was crammed and smell of cooking and rancid fat awful, furhter exacerbated by smoke drifting in from the smokers in the doorway. Sadly, as one has come to expect of a place that has taken on the mantle of a profireering eating house rather than country pub, the beer was flat and tasteless and short measure. The beer was much better in the nearby Longhirst Hotel where we were staying and is a sad reflection on this establishment.

 what is going on ?
as a regular weekend visitor to the bebside for the live entertainment and following my return there last week ( i have been working away) i am left wondering what has happened to this place apart from it being up for sale? service was terrible i waited over ten minutes for a flat beer, there was no atmosphere and only a handfull of people in for the band, this bar was the top live music venue in blyth, sadly something has changed .

 Great Roadside Stopping Point
Superb Food, the landlord, a freindly Scot, is first a great Chef, then a great publican.
Good selection of ales & beers at very reasnable prices.
Nowhere better to stop with the kids and sit outside while they play in the childrens play area, and enjoy a beer. If you want a drive out and excellent food try the Widdy

 Delicious Sunday Roast!
Excellent quality of food and value for money! The sticky toffee was the best pudding i have ever tasted, and it must be tried - as long as you have room left from the huge portion of main course!
My family and i visit every sunday, and reccomend to anyone!

 Risotto to die for!
We use the Ridley Arms quite often and I rarely look beyond the very excellent fish and chips. however today was our second visit within a week and with my waistline in mind, I studied the menu more closely. I found asparagus and artichoke risotto featured as 'a special'. I love risotto, asparagus and artichokes. To see all my favourites featured in one dish and topped off with a perfectly poached egg drove all thoughts of fish and chips out of my head completely. Congratulations to the chef. It was the best risotto I have tasted outside Italy.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A WEEK MADE
The Bebside Inn has now been taken iver by Julie and David, they are brother and sister. After a week of constant work by about 10 people the place has been cleaned, re-decorated and sorted out and is now doing really well. There is a karaoke on every friday and rock bands on every saturday, also coming soon will be a quiz nite on a sun nite. its a nice friendly, family run pub and is worth a try for everyone. The pub is widely renound for being a bikers pub but it attracts all walks of life and everyone are welcome apart from if your on the blyth valley pubwatch list. Please give it a try, you wont regret it

Sun Inn still a cut above the rest
After reading some of the comments on this board recently I had real worries the Sun Inn had slipped from its previously exemplary position. You see I was of the opinion that this pub was the best in Morpeth, after two or three cracking meals there. I went there last night in a party of 16. The service was unfussy, friendly and timely. The menu is still exciting. I had a scallop and black pudding kebab as a starter, followed by slow roasted lamb shank on horseradish mash with a red wine jus for my main. I was delighted with it, the presentation was superb and my only niggle was the mash was a tad dry. But I asked myself what other pub menu round here has such a relaxed grasp of fine dining in a traditional pub setting. There's talent at work here and you don't expect to find it so easily. Well done Sun, you're still number 1!

 Best fish and chips!
I go to this pub regularly - there's a good selection of real ales and they serve the best fish and chips I've ever had. The rest of the food is also delicious and is good value considering the quality. All in all a favourite NE pub.

Not the best meal I've had. Dire
Three main courses my party ordered all at 7 to 8. None came out with veg. This was queried with a passing member of staff who in passing said 'they don't come with veg' and made no attempt to put the situation right. On having a look at the menu board, veg was shown as a side dish at the bottom of the board for an extra 2.50. For the standard of the food, this didn't represent value for money. The meat in the Aberdeen Angus steak pie was 'rubbery' and fatty. Sorry but we left feeling that we'd been mugged. No intentions to return.

 Greatest Pub In Town
The Wansbeck is the greatest pub ever in morpeth. Great beer, food and atmosphere. The landlord is a polite women and her husband is in turn a great compliment for the place. This pub has been my local for a year or so now, and makes a great quiet night or starting point to a night out.
