Was absolutely disgusted with the Kings head today, went to the Christmas market today and thought we would have a carvery in the Kings head ,we went in at 12.10 and they were clearing away the trays from the hot plate, ok we thought they are refreshing the food, so we got our drinks and paid for lunch and were told they would be refilling in 10 mins ,OK, 20 mins later still no food other people kept asking how long ,another 10 mins , again 20 mins later we and other people asked again how long , we are waiting for the potatoes , the woman behind the hot plate started to cut all the meat up ,that meat was getting cold and drying out.
after an hour still no food to be served , people had been waiting longer than me, I asked again how long to be told YET again it will be 10 more mins, I asked how long does it take to cook potatoes as myself a chef I could have served 150 people in the time it was taking was told if I wasn't happy the get my money back to which I did and so did other members of the public behind me ,I was with 3 other people you lost at least 8 people who had all paid, if you advertise a carvery from 11am it would be so nice to go in at 12,10 and get one not after well over an hour still to be waiting and to be continually told 10 more mins and after an hour and 10 mins we left the staff didn't have a clue on how to run the place and sadly myself and the other people who left will not be coming back

 Banned !
The food was good, though one dish, the baked haddock, was very small. When I commented on this I was told that haddock shrinks in the oven and I had upset the waitress with my complaint so was banned ! It seems the management at this establishment is always right !

 Poor Service
My Husband and I have just returned fro the FlyingChilders where we were most disappionted by the service. We arrived shortly after 7 pm not a busy time. We ordered our food which was not written down. My husband ordered a Stilton steak and wasn't asked how he would like it cooked. The cutlery arrived at which point the question was asked. We were then informed that the Stilton Steak had all gone which was not a problem. At approximately &.35 we were told that our starters wouldn't be long we had orderd breaded mushrooms. At 7.50 we decides to wait a couple more minutes before leaving at this point our starters arrived. My husbands was placed in front of him and then the waitress reached over him to place mine down saying there you go no enjoy your starter or apology. The table next to us who had only ordered 5 minutes before also received their starters just after us and the same waitress said to them enjoy your starters. This, added to the time that we had waited was extremely annoying to say the least. At this point my husband called the waitress over and complained that we had waited too long in our opinion and that the other customers had received far better service. We paid for what we had and left very disappointed. I have worked in the catering industry foer 30 years and know the pressures of a busy service but ther was no excuse for this evenings poor service. It is sad that in the current economic climate that your staff are not doing their best to attract customers and encourage them to return. We will not be returning in future but will be going to the local Wetherspoons which always offers good service .

Lovely historic building - friendly staff!
We found this pub and made it our local when we were in the area for a long weekend. Lovely old building and friendly staff made we feel very welcome - basic but good quality drinks. We didn't eat or stay here so can't comment on these aspects. We'll certainly be back!

Do not eat in this establishment!
I am a long time devout vegetarian (no fish/meat/byproducts etc)
Having ordered my vegetarian meal, I double checked with the waitress, whom duly confirmed my meal was vege with the chef...

Having taken a mouthful, I discovered to my horror that I had been served beef mince.

With the exception of the waitress, the staff didn't take this seriously at all and I got the impression they found it quite humourous.

Quite frankly this is the most disgusting service I have ever experienced.

Looks like a great place from the outside. My advice would be to stay outside.
Standard Banks's selection on offer. Cheap food.
Pub run by kids for kids. Bad atmosphere inside. Staff report lots of fights. Closes late at night where upon the idots move into the street, smash glasses and shout for half the night.
Accomodation disgusting. Dirty. Missing fixtures. No hot water. Hole in window.

 Excellent & highly recommended.....
I've travelled a lot and have sampled good food and really bad, but this place is faultless. Great fresh produce and the home made specials dishes are a fabulous blend of innovotive and sometimes brave mixes and they really work. Its a real taste sensation. The presentation of the food is super. If this place were 50 miles further south, you would pay four times as much. As its in Ashby, you pay small prices, so all you locals.....go and 'dip-your bread' asap!

Great food, friendly service, well kept ales and a great wine selection. Sometimes you have to wait for a few minutes for a table if you're looking to eat, but surely that's a recommendation, not a criticism!! Beer garden, kids' play area and equipment, petanque area, free camping field at back . . . need I say more?

best pub for england football matches
this place is not the greatest pub in the world, nor is it in the greatest part of the world but it is however second to none as the place to watch england play football other than being at the match itself.

there are 2 big screens, crazy locals, it is just like being on the terraces.

if u like a lively atmosphere to watch football, singing, shouting and a good session on the beer, get down to watch the world cup this year!

Proper pub meals, well prepared and presented. Seems to be the only pub in Leicestershire that knows how to cook a steak properley. A la carte menu in the restaurant is good and unpretentious. Well worth a visit for the fish.

Mr and Mrs Waterfield
 Not disabled friendly
On visiting your establishment for lunch my husband and I were totally disgusted at the lack of facilities for the disabled in wheel chairs and the very poor customer service of your staff.
On arrival you had to enter the premises via the rear entrance as there was a step at the front enrtrance. In the bar there were three tables reserved and one couldn't go into the other bar as there was a step.
I asked the member of staff at the bar whether we could use the reserved tables and that my husband was disabled and he then just looked and ignored my husband and I.
Thankfully a couple of kind ladies gave up their seats for us, or else we would have had to take our custom elsewhere.
Considering the new laws that have just come out for the rights of the disabled and the poor facilities you have I would like to say that its about time you gave your staff proper training in customer service for the disabled.
For corrective criticism you should put a ramp up the doorway from the one bar to the other and also get someone to sort out your disabled toilet.
Maybe if you sat in a wheel chair and tried to use the toilet
yourself with a sink at the side and the floor going up slightly you woulld realise how badly the toilet is designed.
