 A friendly micropub
A recently opened micropub in Ross-On-Wye. There is an excellent asortment of ales and cider, in a convivial dog friendly environment. Filled rolls are available from Friday to Sunday. Mobile phone usage is discouraged (in a lighthearted manner). Face to face communication is actively encouraged! Well worth a visit.

 Best Sunday lunch in hereford
We go to the bush most Sundays, and often take friends with us too. Always a great selection to choose from, everything is home-made. Always a friendly welcome and the waitresses are wonderful. We've tried a lot of Sunday lunches but no where beats the bush, we would recommend it to everyone.

Fron owner in reponse to below comments
Firstly we have seen trade change dramatically during the 17 years I have owned The Bush Inn.
In the early years (1995-2004) we had a pool table & darts team, but those friendly locals were 18-25 yrs old - they are now i n 30-40s with mortgages and children. The majority have moved out of the village due to high house prices.
Once the smoking ban was introduced we found more and more people requiring good pub food- as a consequence we removed the unplayed dart board and pool table and redecorated.
The reduced supermarket prices for alcohol has played a big part in the demise of the British pub.
We open lunchtimes from 12 and evenings from 7pm (saturday 6.30pm) these have been our opening hours since 1995.
As for saying we are inconsistent, I have been the chef since day 1 preparing fresh, home-cooked value for money food and have many loyal regular customers.
Drinkers are very welcome here - not just those that are eating.
We will be celebrating 18 years of successful business in May.

 Not an inn...
This used to simply be the best public house in a twenty mile radius. The beer was good, the locals were friendly, the food was decent and all essential bar games were present.
Why they had to change it to a restaurant I will never know. The food is mediocre, and unless you are eating, you get a very frosty reception from the uppity clientele that seem to now inhabit the place.
To add insult to injury, unless you go on a sunday, you are never sure if the place will be open or not. I have driven past quit a few times in the early evening and the lights have all been out.

Bottom line, changing format, this formerly brilliant pub has changed into a soulless, inconsistent generic country restaurant aspiring to greatness, but just can't be bothered with the journey.

 lovely family run country pub
My husband and myself have been visitng the bush for many years, (around 12 if my memory serves me correctly). We often take friends for meals and are always made to feel very welcome.
There is always a lovely selection of home-cooked meals on the menu and my husbands special dietary requirements are always met. This is something we find hard to achieve in other restaurants. we always enjoy one of the home-made deserts, the sticky toffee pudding is a treat and must be tried.
we look forward to our next visit.

correct to the below comment, lies!!
except for the very rare occassion no dogs and certainly never any cats are allowed in our public areas.
He forgot to mention in the slating of us that he had two big pitbull/staffy type dogs with them. This is why we politely asked them to relocate to an area which was away from our dining customers, also the weather was fine so they could of sat outside on our patio area where dogs are welcome. They were requested twice to move (from the dining area) and rudely refused which annoyed both the landlord and myself the landlady. for someone who had refused to move and who had consumed some of there drinks they were lucky to get a refund at all, we never asked you to leave we asked you to RELOCATE!!

The pub smells of cats pee!!!!
I entered the pub and noticed it smelt of cat urine! Sat at a table with a pint of cider and looked at the menu. But the smell put me off so decided not to eat. The table we sat at had no cutlery or condiments and looked like a bar table! When the barman found we were not eating he told us to go to the back room to drink our drinks! I told him no and he became very rude. I got a reluctant refund on our drinks and left. I WOULD ADVISE ALL TO AVIOD THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE!!! Without doubt the rudest and most arrogant barman I've ever met. If you want a good friendly pub and restaurant in this area carry on down the road to The Nags Head. Extremely friendly staff and an enjoyable place to visit And a far better choice of beers and ciders.

Had a fantastic meal at the Garway Inn on August 21st. Scott was very attentive found us a table at short notice, the atmosphere was very buzzy and the pub was full of locals enjoying a night out. The meal was splendid, all produce is locally sourced and my meal contained the biggest faggots I had ever since. Well worth a visit.

Homemade food, fresh fish - Gorgeous!!
Great atmosphere & good choice of homemade dishes- the puds are great and the fish? Well what can i say - the mussels were so fresh i havent tasted better out of France - gorgeous food and service - couldnt fault it. Quality from a pub/restaurant that is still suffering from previous awful food offerings.

 A great pub now
This pub used to be very busy and had good pub food when Adrian was the owner. Since he left a few years ago it was taken over by a new owner. Who had good intentions but lost all of the local trade. He then left and a new couple came who did a very poor job. You would go there for food and they would say something like we couldent be bothered to do food tonite. I live only half a mile away so kept going to see if things picked up but they did not and i found there was only a couple of people in. Thankfully the new owners left and a fresh owner has now taken over. Offering food all day and it is packed again.

 Hereford's live music hub
I love to watch live entertainment, and there is simply nowhere better to do so than in the Black Lion. They have live music at least three nights a week, offering a very broad range of styles to suit everybody. From the fantastic driving beats of Taxi, to the mind-blowing vocal performances of the multi-talented Ian Marshall, the talent that this pub pulls in is immense. To top it all off, the beer is excellent, the food, I gather, is second to none, and the welcome is heart warming.

 awful beer
Took 4 goes for the landlord to pour a decent pint that hadn't gone off. First 2 of 'brains SA' tasted sour and had turned into vinegar. The third, of Brains Rev James also tasted foul, with a fruity aldehyde smell. Finally a pint of the ordinary Brains bitter was ok. Pity because Brains is such great beer(everywhere else). Would not go back here.

A pub full of vibrant atmosphere
The Barrels stands out from any other pub I have been in for its friendly service and easy-going vibrant atmosphere. It offers real ale and often hosts excellent live music. The beer festival that takes place there in August is outstanding and brings culture to the city of Hereford.

 Beautiful barmaids....
It's great! I go in there to meet my mates have a pint of Shandy and then go home! Sometimes they will buy me a pint so I might stay for 1 more....they usually stay in there for the rest of night and get drunk and loud and become dicks but I'm happily married and have higher morals than them!
