A comment from someone who has ACTUALLY been here!
I am not from this area, and have never been here before. From the second I entered the bar to the moment I left, I could not find fault. Landlady was very courteous, and although quiet for a Friday evening, she still had a smile for everyone. A real community pub, and one I hope to visit again in the future.

If you don't like our company then drink somewhere else.
I'm sure there are lots of pubs on the council estate which would be more suitable for your needs and tastes.

My god - felt like a leper!
Seems to be that you have to be known by the regulars to be allowed a comfortable drink. Assessed by the car you drive or the plastic you flash. Not for anyone with a personality!

 mild disappointment
This pub is lovely, don't get me wrong, but they are in Worcester and ONLY have Somerset Cider, not Hereford?? I really do not understand this
Thursday, January 19, 2012Rating: rosettes

My wife and I dined here recently. The staff were very pleasant . However , although we enjoyed the food , we considered it over priced for the very small portions presented. Not what we would consider value for money.

 What a little treasure!
I was introduced to The Camp House by a friend whilst I was living in Cannock and I loved it so much I used to commute down the M6/M5 regularly because I loved it so much!

Thankfully, I now live in Worcester and don't have to spend an hour each way in traffic to enjoy the rustic, unpretentious charms of this wonderful pub. The food is great, beer and cider of excellent quality and well priced, but the unique setting by the river Severn is the selling point for me. Do visit it - you will come back!

Dropped in on a Bank Holiday. Pretty garden is a sun trap. Chef did set barbecue and salads. Young friendly staff working hard deserve to do well.
Inside a bit gloomy and smelled of bleach good job we sat outside.

 No meal?
Me and my cousin visited The Postal Order in Worcester last saturday for a meal. I am 17 so therefore did not order any alcohol we just wanted a meal. The man behind the bar was very rude and basicaly told us we had to get out because we were under 18. We only wanted a meal therefore my cousin and I both found this stupid that we couldn't stay just for a meal when we only asked for cokes. I am very dissapointed with this place and find it very discriminating that we couldnt stay just for a meal.

 mothers day
my daughters took me out for Mothers Day 2010 and were told if we got to The ketch at 11.30am a table for 10 would be organised for us by 12 noon (they do not take bookings) 5 of us arrived at 11.20am and advised the person at the door we were there and were told to go back to him when the whole party were there and he would get things set up.We did so and then waited until 1.30pm to be seated - a wait of 2hours 10mins - with no apology whatsoever. Shall not be going there again- food was very mediocre also.

 New Landlady
Hi. I am the landlady at the Deer's Leap. We took over last year and the place really has changed. See the Web site www.thenewdeersleap.co.uk by clicking on the link above. We have live music every Saturday and the pub has a great atmosphere. Families are welcome. The food is good (5 stars from environmetal health). Most importantly it's a clean and friendly place. Please ignore all the previous bad press and come and see for yourself.

 What a change
Visited the Deers last week. It's been closed for some time but now has a new lease of life. The Landlord Martyn and his wife are freindly and clean. The whole place has chnaged. The toilets are spotless, the beer is great and a fair price and some of the old regulars are returning. I will certainley be going back. There are lots of events planned for the future. A nice clean friendly place.

 Exceptional Valentines Menu
The choice was varied and all that we chose was perfect.
I had the smoke salmon and prawn timbale, with tomato concasse and chives and it was excellent. The Venison was melt in the mouth with such a wonderful flavour. My partner had Monkfish which he said was the best he had had. How the deserts how hard was it to choose - but we did - I had the bitter chocolate and rasperberry tart and my partner had the Pineapple cheesecake both of which were to die for! The service was excellent, would recommend it, and we will soon be returning.

We have eaten at The Chequers several times but our Sunday lunch on 19 November 2006 left a lot to be desired. It was poor value for money being expensive for the quality of both the food and service. The roast beef was thick and tough and the beef oxford uninspiring. We were left having to ask for our dirty crocks to be removed after some 20 minutes. It is no use having premium beers and then gassing them. The final straw was the inability to pay the bill by Visa as the sole phone line was being monopolised. Doubt we will be making a return visit.

 New Owners but Still.
My friends and i went to the newly owned chequers on saturday evening just, nice new people and others behind the bar/restaurant areas, but i have to say the decoration and whole appeareance of the establishment is the same as the previous owners left it,awards, certificates and photgraphs etc.,hope it updates soon.I have heard better opening hours are now in force and as other certain people have said good traffic policing in the day/evenings around the whole crowle and near areas roads now.Thank you, if any changes i see on my next visit i will update you with praise for the chequers.

 A Home away from Home
I returned to Canada aftervisiting for 2 weeks in Worcester. I was very inpressed by the hosts Ron, Cathy and Phil who made every patron feel special. The food was exceptional, great menu choice and superbly prepared and served. The portions were large and served hot. I can readily see why it is frequented by locals as well as canal boats and fishermen for their family meals. The skittles, pool, darts and card night activities make for a lively and enjoyable time during the day and night. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for value for their money and good company.

Sunday, October 15, 2006Rating: rosettes

buisness pub man
Who owns it,should they sell it?
Needs new decor and extra public in it,maybe the owners secretly want to sell or have given up on the place, with a lot of people in the area it could make a nice new earner for new owners?

I can highly recommend the Cavalier Tavern
Recently I returned to the Cavalier after several years to celebrate my parents 60th Wedding Anniverary, and the service provided was absolutely top class, the landlord & landlady was most helpful in organising the event and the food was brilliant..
Many thanks for making my Parents special day one they will always remember.

 reunion and fond farewell
hey steve and julia and ian...
sorry i couldnt be there tonight, i am on call and didnt finish my visits in yorkshire until 8pm. so impossible to get there..
just to say..
we had the time of our lives at the eagle and then with you at the chequers, fab freinds, happy stories, great bosses...
something precious and set us up for life..
hope you enjoy your retirement .. i am sure that you all will and i hope to bump into you sometimes,
end of and era...
but we laugh so much when we talk of things like Bett and her cling film goggles, when she was peeling onions and Carl, and that I could never even see where the lettuce bowl was in the fridge, when it was right in front of me.. and i would smash a glass by ian every single night, why did i do that..
jim scutterbutter and the major...
a really really big big thankyou to you all for these memories..

 Not my kind of place
This pub is really an old bikers pub. I wouldn't really describe this as a normal family kind of place. This would be the perfect place to entertain if you were hard and fast bikers or retired bikers. Personally I wont be returning to this pub it really wasnt my kind of place or my kind of people and as a previous writer said on what should have been a popular night there were only about a dozen people there who seem to be mostly family or close friends. The kitchen area seemed open to all.

 i have to agree
i went to this pub on the understanding that it was going to be a better pub , down to having new management. How wrong was all the bulling up in these reviews i don't know if they were written by the landlords or by thier friends but i can't see they were written by evryday customers as when i went in there were a maximum of 6 people in there most of which looked like they were family/friends of the landlord as they were in and out of the kitchen area ,which from the bar looked untidy and downright grease logged. i approached the bar to buy a drink and just got grunted at by the somewhat shabby and unkept looking landlord or male worker not quite sure who he was but i know he has no people skills what so ever. i drank my very expensive drink and left promptly as i felt very uneasy and uncomforable being a single lass in there. I won't be going back either , looks like the pub got worse when it got taken over not better.

 nasty vile pub
i visited this pub after reading the good reviews the only thing i can think of is that the owners must have writtten them them selves.I went on the weekend i think this is one of the worst pubs i have ever vivited and wouldn't want this experience again the land lady is a middle aged biker who thinks that she is 16, her coarse attitude and language was disgusting as a landlady she is in the public eye and her attitude is attracting the wrong type the pubs hygiene has a lot to be desired a lick of paint doesn't paint away there attitudes, this is not a family pub never will be WILL DEFINATLEY NOT RETURN AND WILL WORN OTHERS AGAINST GOING.
Wednesday, August 2, 2006Rating: No rosettes

 shabby and unfriendly
i visited this pub on one occasion as i was told it was under new management and was expecting a warm friendly pub.Instead i found the decore to be garish and the staff only welcoming the people they knew, they looked an unproffestional group of staff and and i think they need need a dress code for staff as they were walking around in dirty tee shirts and provocative attire which on middle age women does not give a good impression. On the good side the toilets were clean and newly decorated. Not a place i will return to.
Tuesday, August 1, 2006Rating: rosettes

Totally agree with that. Used to be bar 105, the cheapest drinks in town and always rammed. Would start off every weekend night out with a couple in here but now is expensive, empty and rubbish
Monday, July 31, 2006Rating: rosettes

an employee
 bad employers
as a student i frequented wetherspoons often, because of the cheap drink. now i work here, i have to say that, while i appreciate the cheap drinks will attract 'diverse' customers, it can attract some extremely difficult customers and they are not a particularly employee-friendly chain. their pubs have no personality, and while working there i feel like i am working for the company rather than the pub. full of old alcoholic men and tanked-up chavs. am currently looking for a new job.

amos fro lower field
Don't be a chubb, get yerself down the MUG - BAB!
A quaint rural retreat, where real ale is the order of the day. Set against the majestic backdrop of a shit ridden lower field the Mug offers darts, sawdust floors and pork pies to add to the 1800's ambience. Certainly no Stella, England Flags, Sky Sports or Burberry here ...and thats the way us locals like it!! If you want a theme bar visit the Newie - they are really embracing 21st century pub kitsch with poor decor, snug room for dubious darts leagues and even a website - now thats fooking progression!!

The Newy? We could do couldn't we!
Many a drunken night has been spent in this weird little sh*t hole, in our lovely corner of Worcester. Me, Browner, Wilf, Stork, Han, Bazza, Dazza and ****ing Tezza have had plenty of good ones. Oh Yes indeed we have! Praise the lord for the boozer that is 'The Newy'!!!!
ps - i recommend the lamb shank with redcurrant jus on a bed of cous cous, with roasted root veg, accomanied with the Bollinger. Superb.

 Friendly, good beer, nice location
In Diglis (canal area of Worcester), friendly 'local' pub (no fancy decor or theme nights!, back room with pools, upstairs function room (some occasional folkd music sessions downstairs & gigs upstairs), decent beer

 Bad clientelle, not likely!!
I like this pub, and I don't know what the persons comment below is on about. Whenever I have been in there has been no trouble, and the staff are always there as soon as you are at the bar. If they want to see bad clientelle they should go to the Glovers needle.

This is a great pub for lunches, and they do unbeatable fish and chips. However, I wasn't too impressed when I had a dinner there, but this was only once so I haven't let it spoil my rating.

 best water-side pub
arrived by boat on a bitter february sunday lunchtime. We has no idea what to expect - all i can say is, after years of travelling canals and visiting canal-side pubs that more often than not prove VERY disappointing, the Camp House did NOT disappoint. Unmodernised, a REAL pub - please don't change it!

I've been drinking in the Leap for a while now and I've got to say that the pub is better than ever!! They are making a real effort to bring in new customers, whilst retaining the faithful regulars. The food is spot on, the beer is great (keep an eye out for drinks promotions!) and the entertainment is better than that in town! DJ's, karaoke nights, quiz nights and now they are having live bands too! I can't see why people who live near this pub would want to go into town for a drink!

 Visited the Deers leap
I am a regular user of most of the pubs in Worcester, and i recently visited the Deers leap and was made feel most welcome by staff and management. The beer is of a more than reasonable price and the food is of the most excellent quality. I definetly will be using the pub again and will be telling my friends about it as well.
Tuesday, January 10, 2006Rating: rosettes

Great people, Great Beer,Great Prices and a Great atmosphere. The deers leap has become a respectable place to be now after being taken over by the new owners, they have definitly turned round the dump it used to be and made the pub a real hit with the locals!

 friendley pub for ladies
I am a female customer of the Deers Leap, and with the friendley atmosphere i feel i can walk in on my own whilst i am waiting for my partner.i could never do that in any other pub in worcester.they make you feel welcome if you are a man or a woman.
i find the pub nice, clean and friendley and never heard a complaint about a dirty glass and the service is second to none and prices very competative.
i live local and been coming to Deers Leap for 4 years and never felt so comfortable and welcome as i have in the laST 12 MONTHS SINCE THE NEWOWNERS HAVE TAKEN OVER

Microwave is the only modern cllasy fod,you ol per
The Chequers is nice and with nice staff and to say the place is worse than the good sad nursing home joint YEARS AGO is very wrong, microwave food, good food and nice staff, the chequers might still look old in the bar area but very new in the new restaurant area, part is new and cool for alll medium to large parties and to hell wiith smokers.Nice place just remember no swearing etc or any sort of drink friving because Crowle is now strictly monitored for drink driving fools, thanks.
Thursday, December 22, 2005Rating: rosettes

Kitty you have never seen the kitchen have you.
When busy it is more than 10 mins to get your food, when quiet it is 5 minutes, and you obviously have never seen the kitchen where i used to work, microwave!!!!! and the bar area does need updoing, living off old recommendations before microwave with the same scenery to give the original feel.Blurrrrrr Kitty.

This is definitely the place to come for passive smoking. The world and his wife smoke in this pub.Small and pokey, the smoke has nowhere to go apart from down the lungs of a non smoker.

 The Alma Tavern
Yes, lots of people still use the pub. The food is excellent and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. It is also very good value for money and unlike most pubs the food is fresh and home cooked.
Wednesday, November 2, 2005Rating: rosettes

 v nice
Ignore most of the derogatory comments on this site. The food is lovely. I've eaten here a few times with my family and am yet to fault it. There may be more than a 10 minute wait for food, but if you want quality, and not something heated up in the microwave, what else can you expect? I'd definitely recommend the fish dishes. And as for the 'dated' bar area, this is nonsense. It's kept wonderfully, and the decor reflects the building design and its age.
Monday, October 31, 2005Rating: rosettes

Watch out, egotistical door supervisors about

 expensive dump
I wated to like this pub. It looked ok from the front. The drinks are not only expensive but served in dirty glasses which eventually were changed after a one on one argument with the landlord. Small public houses such as this are usually known for their friendly atmosphere unfortunately this public house was a far cry from that.
Wednesday, September 21, 2005Rating: No rosettes

A nice place to go when the sun shines
This place is the kind of pub you could imagine pop Larkin running. The place is undoubtedly neglecting and I doubt the charis outside have ever been cleaned. Bits of tat are piled up in various corners of the large garden area and teh place could do with a lick of paint. Having said all that You could not ask for a better place to go for a summer time drinking session (especially if you are a cider drinker). Prices are reasonalbe and the atmosphere is friendly. What more coculd you want during a summer ? Just don't get caught ouot being the designated driver!

 avoid the roast dinners!
I had the misfortune to order the roast beef dinner for me and my partner here from this place the other day. One word describels it pathetic! Firstly my partner ordered hers with no gravy. It came with a bit of the gravy wiped off and that was it. The portions of meat were adequate but the accompanieng vegetables which lets face it cost next to nothing compared to the meat was the real let down. On my plate I had three grape sized new potatoes and a small potato that had been cut into three, then deep fried until black/brown. Added to this was a handful of peas and some school style sliced carots. It was shameful to look at and for 5.15 a disgrace on a plate. I don't alwlays expect a fully home cooked style dinner for 6.00 and under but I don't expect insulted and ripped off at the same time.

The pub is a Banks that has Pedigree as its guest beer. As a pub for drinking it was fine but for eating I would stear clear.

We went out for a drive Friday evening, in the sun with the top down. Got to the Yorkshire Grey, we hadn't booked, but we were found a table for two. Excellent service, excellent food. Starters of Asparagus and garlic creamy mushrooms, both great. Mains from the specials menu, salmon and prawn dish with vegetables, roast chicken with vegetables. All could not be faulted. Definitely recommended.

 Nice Pub, Friendly Staff
Nice middle sized pub situated at the top of London Road. They serve food all day offering special offers on drink and food. Wide selection of wines, spirits, cocktails and of course beer. Good selection of food including Sunday lunches and hot puddings. Nice family atmosphere during the day and early evening and 8pm onwards nice for a drink with friends. Selection of music played throughout for all ages and tastes although sometimes too loud but is turned down at request. New management on site, not very experienced and sometimes (rarely) fights between people break out, although subdued immediately previous management had no problems. Prior to the new take over I would have rated this pub 5 *****

If you like beer, and enjoy trying different brands then this is the best pub in worcs. The punters are a bit beardy and anorak wearing but you will not get a better pint in the area.

 Fantastic Riverside Pub
This pub is one of my all time favourites. It's situated on the bank of the River Severn in a delightfully scenic spot. There's even a place for boats to park (or whatever boats do)! The resident peacocks cheerfully pinch your crisps while you sip the most reasonably priced drinks I've bought since I was a university student. I wholeheartedly recommend the cloudy scrumpy cider!

 Good Beer, Good Food, Well-run!
This pub stands head and shoulders above any other pub in Worcester for me.

Less than two minutes from Junction 7 on the A44 into Worcester.

Well-run, with pleasant staff and top-quality-and well kept- beers wines and service.

The food is excellent - plenty of choice and cooked to order. No microwave-to-table here. You definitely need to book for peak times.

 Good value food and drink
The McDonalds of the pub world.
Cheap booze, and cheap food.

The trouble is management let the drunks stay to long after they have become a nusance, so it is a cheap atmosphere as well.

When the drunks are not causing a fuss this is a great place to start your evening or have a switft one after shopping.

This used to be the in place to drink.
Very much a faded star. During the 90's This pub was full to the brim before 9 o'clock on a friday and Saturday. Now it strugles and has lost almost all of its atmosphere.
Monday, November 8, 2004Rating: rosettes

 faded star
I used to go here all the time in the early 90's cheap booze, great food and a good atmosphere coupled with babellike bar staff.

I went in last year and the booze is no longer cheap the service is average at best and the food is not a patch on what it used to be.
Monday, November 8, 2004Rating: rosettes

not what it used to be.
This used to be a great pub, but the landlord has lost interest (never seen behind the bar anymore) Lots of the regulars have moved on so the bar snacks Chese, nuts crisps are back out to entice them back in again.

The beer is a bit pricey. but not quite town pub pricey.
