 Lovely staff bar the landlady!
Very nice pub with excellent staff bar the landlady, who on the basis of my visit, rolls up just before closing time to dispense attitude and unpick the excellent service of the other staff. She is by all measures the worst ambassador of what would otherwise be an excellent pub. A very unpleasant end to what otherwise would have been a great evening.

Great new menu, classic pub dishes as well as a well thought out menu, Plenty of choice and local produce used great stuff. The phaesant dish is fantastic so sorry mr burger eater you are wrong this is proper pub food not burgers. Why go to a pub to EAT A BURGER. If you want to eat burgers go to Mcdonalds or burger king. Great place for a bite to eat and a drink. Keep up the good work.

Great service, stunning interior, awful burger.
Friends and I have been so wanting to find a new pub. Everything told us the Huff Cap was to be special. And the design of the place and the exceptptional trouble taken by the staff met expectation. But the pretentious menu tells all, and our burgers turned out to be in the finest English tradition. ie Crap. I don't go to a pub to eat bloody pheasant. I know burger eaters deserve what they get. But there was little real choice in the Huff's girlie menu. We'll go back and just drink and enjoy the fantastic interior.

Annoyed local
 Stay away!!
I used to be a regular of this place but the real ale has gone down the pan. i had a Youngs last week and it resembled a pint of bisto. they constantly run out of beer and local rumour says the landlady has served time for robbing an ex employer!! what a shame!!

 Very Poor
Went Thursday 25 Aug 2011 with great expectation. We were very disappointed. My wife's steak was just a solid piece of gristle, mine was also poor quality. They offered to cook it some more! Did not offer any reduction on the bill even after complaining for the second time. This meat was unacceptable at any price. Avoid this restaurant.

The best pint of ale i've had in ages and the food was not only really yummy; but for two of us to eat was next to nothing!!

Well done on an excellent pub and great environment; definately worth a look!!

Very average pub grub but plenty of choice.
We went before six o'clock and found it to be busy, plenty of kids and very noisy-waited 45mins for meal.
The price (a third off b4 6) reflected the meal.

 Exceptionally Good Food and Service
What a breath of fresh air in an area devoid of many good eating places. Extremely busy on a Friday Night yet the service was very good, very friendly and the food was hot and fresh. Yes the starters may be a little small but you pay for quality and freshness. The range of dishes available are a credit to this small establishment.

Not forgetting the nice range of beers and wines available at the comfortable bar.

We wish them every luck and hope they are around for a long time to come. We will be back time and time again if they keep up this quality, friendly service.

 Not good value for money
We have just returned from a meal at the RedGate very disappointed. We ordered a 10oz sirloin and a 10oz rump which averaged out at around £20 per head. presentation was v poor, clearly with McCain oven chips, a small tomato and 1 mushroom. Starters and sides were expensive for the size of portions. Maybe its early days here but they need to start offering better value for money. It is meant to be a steak house but there was no chicken or non breaded fish on the menu only pasta and pizza! At present if you want a nicer meal in better quality surroundings carry on up the A5 for about a mile and go to the Bull inn in Witherley.

Walked in the pub at 6:20pm on Monday 29th March to be greeted by a woman who said.....your alright for a drink but you won't be able to eat which was then promptly backed up the presumed manager, who then went on to say that we could eat at 9:30pm. Looking around, all of the tables were empty?? We then left and on the way out looked at the menu, to discover the shocking price of the fillet steak.....£27!!!!!! Down the road in Sibson at the Cock Inn, you can get a warm welcome and a lovely fillet steak for £19.95. Further more you can experience full on italian hospitality in Sheepy Magna at San Giovanni's for £21.95 for a fillet steak. I'd like to remind you that although The Redgate may have been refurbished..........your still a pub and not all that!!!!!!!!!

 No atmosphere
It's such a shame that this pub has lost all it's lively atmosphere. All the regulars have gone mainly due to the non existence of a manager. The staff seem to have little or no experience and do not interact with the customers. The owners should make a visit to the Bull just down the road to see how a good pub is run.

A country pub as it ought to be.
A very friendly local pub. Real Ales, home cooked food and a traditional skittles table. Very much a community pub but both the landlady and the locals are welcoming to walkers, canal visitors and caravaners. No music or video games.

Excellent atmosphere with all tastes in rock and alternitive music catered for. Being a cellar pub it has a charm of its own that is hard to find in these days of modern wine bar type venues.  Recommend it to anyone!
The Pub is roomy with lots of entertainment; such as wide screen televisions for sporting events, karaoke, pool tables, football table, fruit machines and a juke box with a large and varied choice of music. The curent owner Debbie and Paul are always very friendly and make everyone feel welcome. The beer is always spot on and it is obvious it is taken good care of. The merry monk is deffinately my favourite pub in the area!

This pub has a great atmosphere. The beer is usually pretty good too (and not too expensive) and there is a good selection of proper beers. I totally disagree with blueman that you would be better off going to the Clarendon - now thats a 'chain' pub and the beer can be awful.

 Good food - Good People
We were backpacking on holiday from the USA and were rescued from an exceptionally challenging day by the finest folks you could meet, The pub owners, Patrick and Geralding Ryan(Beware, her cooking is out of this world fantastic).
After they helped us find a B&B and the bartender (their nephew)brought us to it, they held dinner hours longer to accomidate our late schedule then invited us to the landlords table for two of the most fun evenings we had in England.
We must have visited 30 or more pubs on our trip, this was the best for food, atmosphere and a friendly patronage.

 Great cafe bar
This is a fantastic example of a positive refurbishmnet. The Cross used to be a run of the mill pub with average beer. Now is has been transformed into a high quality cafe bar. Excellent beer, great staff and superb food. Would recommend to all. Great facilities and parking to rear.

 Was once great.
Another Kenilworth pub that has declined since it's 'refurbishment'. This was once a great traditional pub that severed real ales of the highest quality. However, the original character of the pub was obliterated by some idiot brewery manager and the pub has declined since. The beer of of mediocre standard and some of the staff are miserable (probably due to the environment). Could be great again if owned as an independant. You would be better advised to cross the road to the excellent Old Bakery Hotel or the Claredon Hotel.
Friday, December 31, 2004Rating: rosettes

 Small and traditional
Limited selection of beers but served well. Parking is on street, very limited and not recommended. Very smoky in pub so beware asthma sufferers.
Friday, December 31, 2004Rating: rosettes

Used to be a great pub.
I remember this as THE real ale pub in the town. Now it has moved to a pub for teens/early twenties and the obvious removal of the real ales. However, all age groups need to be catered for and this pub still retains some of the original ambience. Good for younger drinkers.
Friday, December 31, 2004Rating: rosettes

 Typical 'themed pub'
More of a family eatery than traditional pub. Clean and well maintained with a tempting menu.

Pub offers a good selection of beers, nice food, good parking a friendly staff. An ideal spot for a family meal or tourists.

 Friendly staff
Very friendly bar staff and made to feel welcome. Limited selection of beer but served well. Like the traditional decor and felt like a 'real pub'. Disliked the very smoky atmosphere which resulted in an early exit.

Real ales served along with other quality ales. A small pub but plenty of parking to to rear. Reasonable prices and one of the better pubs in the town centre. Like many pubs the smoke extraction could be improved.

 Hardly a cafe bar!!
In my opinion the second worst pub in Kenilworth behind the Claredon Arms (Please do not confuse with the Claredon Hotel or Earl of Clarendon).

The decor is dated, the beer in pretty bad (the usual big brewery mainline excrement). Maybe a nice place or underage drinkers or alcoholics.

Paul from Northampton
 Unique rugby Themed Pub!!
From Northampton visiting friends and family in Rugby, I was pleasantly surprised to be taken to the William Webb Ellis! The atmosphere was so cosy with loads of Rugby memorabilia which was definitely a talking point for us sporting fanatics. I was amazed at the unique screens on the bar showing Rugby coverage and the staff were very accomodating. I will definitely be making more trips to Rugby to sample more dishes on the first class menu which is traditional with a modern twist and the extensive wine list means its the perfect place to take my girlfriend as well as watch the game!!!!!

 Fascinating - good food too!
I couldn't stop look around there is so much rugby stuff to take in - it's a must for anyone who is interested in sport. The food was excellent and the staff (who were all wearing rugby shirts) were very friendly and chatty. I will definitely be going back.

 Best In Town
All I have to say about the food at the William Webb Ellis is Hallelujah!! Gormet food at reasonable prices - everything cooked from fresh, including the bread made every morning. Definitely the best place in town.

 Great place to meet
I'd not been to the Webb Ellis until recently but I'm glad I did. The food was great and there's a good range of cask ales, good place to meet for an afterwork drink and a bite to eat. Not been for a lunch yet but the service is speedy so I imagine there'd be no issue with getting back late to the office like a few places I could mention in the town.
On the whole a good atmosphere, the staff were friendly and the food was top notch.
