3 of us ate in the Nelson on Sunday26th June.Won't eat in there again. My daughters yorkshire pudding was black, mine wasn't much better. How could the 'chef' send it to the table like that?I wanted to complain but my daughter didn't want to make a fuss.We thought the price was £10-95 like the vegetarian dish ,but were charged £12-95 each. Not worth the money. Will stick to the Wych Elm in future..Good value for the money..

 Warm friendly great beer
This pub is fantastic it's a very warm friendly place to go have a great beer the landlady is lovely and really has a great attitude
Would recommend that anybody call in and try it for themselves rather than listen to the rubbish on here about things that happened by previous owners well worth the trip

 Worst pub in Stone!
Langtrys in Stone, Staffordshire is the worst pub I have ever been in and I won't be returning. The landlady Sue was unfriendly, unwelcoming, aggressive and bad mannered, and the atmosphere in the pub unnerving to say the least. I would definitely not recommend it!

 One of those 'Problem' pubs
Frequented by local louts and screaming harpies. Police are regular visitors.
Would be best flattened and turned into social housing

 Update on my last message
I have now received an e mail about my complaint, apologizing about the meal.
I rang the manager, apparently it was the deputy manager that I had complained to on the night.
He has now offered us a free meal.
We will see how it goes.

 Don't Go There!!!!!

My wife and I went for a Carvery last week, we had a coupon for the carvery and soup or ice cream for £12-50.
We chose the beef which was very nice, moving along the counter we came to the vegetables, dried pea's, cold cauliflower and cheese, mashed potatoes that were like glue, we had to vigorously shake the serving spoon to get it off the spoon and on to our plate. Then we came to the roast potatoes, roast potatoes more like cremated potatoes, they were burnt black like lumps of coal. I put two of them on my plate and sat down.
After attempting to cut through the leather like skins I called a waitress over, she said that she would try and get some more roast potatoes for us. After waiting for a quarter of an hour her told us some were now ready, but by this time our meals were cold.
I asked to see the manager.
The waitress picked our plates up and went to walk away with them, I asked her to leave them on the table so that the manager could see them, but she still took them into the kitchen saying that he could see them in there.
When the manager arrived we told he about the meal and in particular the roast potatoes. He asked me if I was refusing to pay for the meal. I told him to go into the kitchen, look at our meals and tell us what the meal was worth. At that the waitress said that the meals had been throw away.
He said, You can have the ice creams for nothing and walked away.
As I've already said we had a voucher for £12-50, we were charged £9-18, a saving of £3-32 for a meal that was thrown away and a ruined night.
I sent an e mail to Toby Carvery's complaining but have received NO REPLY

 Fantastic food and service
Myself and the family visited The Hollybush last week and it was fantastic. The food came out very quickly, the plates were piping hot (my partner always checks this first) My rib of beef was amazing the meat just fell off the bone.We will most definetly return. The staff were very attentive and had lots of personality- which is nice. Sometimes waitresses are like robots and only say to you the stuff that a large pub chain has drilled into them. But our waitress was exceptional and very funny. The wine was lovely and went down well. Overall it was a fantastic evening one of which we all enjoyed, so much so we have booked for boxing day- menu looks great. Thank you Hollybush see you all soon

 Poor Food
Have just come home after eating here. I am new to the area and thought it looked a nice local. DO NOT have the gammon.Overly salty (cheap cuts of meat) and when they cleared away the plates and asked the usual... is everything ok I commented on the issue above. They said they would mention it to the kitchen... upon payment of the full bill there was no apologey or explanation of the problem. Paid up... but never again.

The Beer was ok
ordered some food but can't comment as after an hour's wait and still no food, we walked out.
not good enough.

Nice beer, shame about the food
7 of us arrived shortly after the pub opened at 7pm and we decided to order 8 mixed grills (2 for 1, so same price as 7, right?).
We were told they only had four. so we ended up ordering four, plus 3 steaks and a surf and turf.
Instead of getting the 4 mixed grills 2 for 1, and the others 2 for 1, we were charged for the 4 most expensive (mixed grills, 16 quid) and got the others free (12 quid each). If we'd placed 2 orders, we'd have saved 8 quid.
So, since we all were having steak, we were asked how we would like them. Everyone was rare or medium rare. After a 45 minute wait, the food started to arrive and the steaks were what I would call very well done. Most of us were too hungry at that point to complain, but one of our group sent his back, as it was as far from rare as you can get. After another 20 minutes, his well done steak arrived. He gave up and ate it. Considering steak is so prominent on the menu, and considering we were asked how we would like them, they really need to learn to cook.

The service at the bar was friendly enough but very slow, it seems locals get preference. The beer was very good (although the Wadworths was a bit cloudy).

We avoided the table in the back that they suggested we use, as there was something dripping onto it from the ceiling.

All in all, OK for beer in an emergency but I wouldn't go there again by preference.

 Superb Stroganoff!
I first visited The Quiet Woman a few years ago, and experienced their Mushroom Stroganoff - it was superb, and unlike most, was not made with a dull, creamy sauce.

I've been back a couple of times since and the Stroganoff was not on the menu. Last night it was back, and was as good as I recalled - definitely.

I'm no gourmet, but I assume this is due to the use of *sour* cream, and lemon, while most people use cream.

The Black Tom mild we had with our meal was an ideal accompaniment, incidentally.

 what an improvement
I visited the Hollybush this time last year with a group of friends to celebrate a new baby. The service was awful. Had to wait over an hour for main meals and when they came the plates were filthy and the food dry. I vowed never to return!! On friday a friend suggested a revisit on account of a voucher he received in the paper. So I thought we would give them a second chance. Very glad we did. Our waitress lauren was a delight. She was attentive and funny but not intruding. Our starters were out well before expected closely followed by our mains. The quality was exceptional. The staff really seemed to be enjoying what they were doing and nothing was too much trouble. I am quite fussy and wanted to swap a few things around on all my courses. But this was no issue and lauren made sure that everything was to our satisfaction. I wasn't expecting much after my first visit but this really showed me that a place can change well done to whoever it is that turned this pub around because our evening was enjoyable and we will definitely be returning on account of excellent service and food.

 Gone down hill
We went there every weekend this time last year and the staff and management were great so friendly and nothing was to much to ask of them. Been there 3 times since October and it's gone down hill. It's such a shame because its a beautiful pub the food and service just isn't the same .
I hope they can turn it round as I will be taking my custom to the nags head this summer :(

 Full of rude Locals !
I think looking at all the comments your all right the Hollybush is a disgrace ! I went with my family on Friday evening the service was not good and to be honest the amount for the food I would of preferred to of gone to a carvery place. Around 9.15pm we was sat waiting for our dessert orders to be taken but all the staff seemed to be too busy talking in the bar area with the locals and now not concentrating on there guests in the Restaurant . In the end we didn't bother with desserts that would of been another £20 lost for them , with my elderly nan trying to get through all the rude arrogant locals hanging around the bar and the front door it took a while to get out of the dam place as none of them would move !!!!
Would never ever go back to such a place since there refurbishment its lost the charm that it had . Such a shame how locals can destroy a great pub to eat in !

The whole place needs to be closed down , this place shouldn't be allowed to serve food it's terrible !! You pay £12 for a meal and it comes out cold !! Service in this place is a shambles 20 mins waiting for drinks !
Get new management the 2 girl managers don't seem to have a clue or a care in the world !!

After a previous bad experience that follwed in a complaint we were given a voucher to return promising high standards and greast customer service. Things have not improved we were booked for 7pm for 10 people for my dads birthday. The table was awful we could not sit arround as table legs obstructed our seats. Our meal did not arrive till 915 pm by which time one of the younger members of the party had fallen asleep. Items of food were forgotten, one of the meals were stone cold, and generally the meals were very poor.
It look lovely and is in a lovely village but it is terrible.

We were regular visitors to the turf until about 8 months ago when the meat was not good. We were told that everybody was complaining that day about the meat and it was out of their control as their meat supplier had been changed. We visited about 3 months ago thinking that if everyone complained they may have gone back to the original meat supplier......unfortunatey this was not the case. Today we have again visited the turf for sunday lunch only to be carved up large amounts of grissle and fat in the beef. I complained.....again I was told the same story that the meat supplier had been changed and everyone was complaining and that there is nothing they could do. The carvery is £9.45 which is expensive when the meat being carved is of a cheap cut. When are they going to realise that it's easy to loose customers but very hard to get customers back.......or do they note care.

Been twice this year! Both visits were awful
Myself & partner dined at the Holly Bush twice this year. Once for our birthdays in march, despite the lovely appearance of the menu the food was bland, cold & very late arriving!
We thought we'd give it another go just yesterday for Sunday lunch. Waited 20 mins for drinks, then 45 mins for a microwaved very disappointing Sunday dinner!
Awful awful awful

 breakfast. (so called).
took my son for a full english breakfast. arrived at 10 am.chef brought out bacon and dissapeared. beans were burnt dry, black pudding you could use to fill holes in tarmac with,we had 3 small button mushrooms each, hash browns were burnt rock solid. there was no staff to help out, only a cleaner. eventually ordered a coffee £1.95 and cold. we waited at the grill to ask about fried eggs,i think lord lucan might have turned up first. bit the bullet and sat down with what we had . lo and behold..the chef is standing up the bar with a steaming hot cup of coffee..you will not be seeing me in there again..thank god the hussey arms has re opened..

I really want to like this pub....but
First time we came across this pub it was like finding an oasis in the desert.
A walkers bar, vegetarian food options and several real ales.
Now they do two for one on all mains, an excellent offer.
e.g. Two steak dinners for a £10.
I just wish they would give the place a deep clean, ( e.g. the fabric armrests are heavy with old grime etc.) And I wish they had a name bitter.
Last time I was there there was no Guiness on tap.
Instead of telling me the bar lady just cracked open a can of guiness and charged me £3 for it !

Despite all this the place is a gem in many ways, I just wish...etc etc

Having booked a table that morning we arrived at the Hollybush to find that no table had been reserved for us and the restaurant was full. Get the management right- you are losing customers!!

 A Superb Dining Experience
On Royal Wedding Day, it was probably not surprising that The Holly Bush was not over-busy in the early evening. The ambiance, food and service were all exceptional. It is a most attractive building set in a beautiful rural hamlet.. The welcome was warm and friendly. As part of The Chef & Brewer chain, they not only offer a good and varied menu, but specials are also on offer which appealed to both uf us. My fiance chose the Scottish Highland Spring Lamb, full of flavour and cooked to perfection. I opted for the Irish Mussels in a leek and apple sauce. The Head Chef was happy to add onions, garlic, chopped parsley & cream which raised the dish by a considerable degree. Throughout, the staff were attentive and I let them all know how happy we both were. A well chilled Sparkling Pinot Grigio came in an ice bucket and was perfect for the occasion. Pub food experiences can vary from week to week, but our visit was sheer perfection. Try it.

The staff realy have no idea how to work as a team.too many chiefs and there are too many staff in the day when its quiet and so little staff when its busy.when i went there was only one girl on the bar who was very competant but had no help from any one else.she seemed to be doing everything, collecting glasses from out side fetching food as well as running the bar single handed .how can such a well known company get it so wrong.its a joke. That was the beginning of august 2011 .:-(

 Mothers Day Meal
I went here today with my mom, dad husband and little boy. To say the very least I was really disappointed. The pub was supposed to have had a make over!! The staff made a mistake with my booking I arrived at 6 but they hadnt booked a table for me until 7, then I was shown to a table for 6 people with no high chair which was booked over the phone. No serviettes on the tables, the toilets were blocked, carrots were hard, as soon as I had finished my pudding the plate was whipped from underneath me, Its a shame really because I have been for a meal at this pub on numerous occasions and always had a lovely time. Definitely wont be returning. I really didnt even get a sincere apology either from the supervisor. I definitely wont be recommending my friends to go here either. Thanks for spoiling my mothers day The Holly Bush!! x

A good family pub and restaurant
I like the Nelson and we have been several times now, mostly during the day and mostly for food. There are a reasonable selection of beers (some local), but that's not my area of expertise.

The food is excellent, well above 'pub grub' standard, and the staff are extremely friendly. The restaurant is relaxed and comfortable although I prefer sitting outside; mainly because you can see the children's play area (with slide and swings). You do have to get used to the (very) free range chickens whilst you eat, however.

All in all, this is a great place to go with the family for a meal and be certain of decent food. The only criticism is that food service can sometimes be a little slow, but the food is worth waiting for.

 Lovely food, no organisation
Having read the other comments it looks like there is a problem with staff numbers and deployment here. We booked for our wedding anniversary night out, a relaxing evening, just the two of us for a change but we had to wait AGES for our food and went home anything but relaxed. On the positive side the food was lovely and the staff were friendly. It all makes no diiference though when you are hungry and watch other tables who arrived later get their meals first.

mmm. the food was good but the service was abisma
The Manager had walked out on his staff, the assistant manager was upstairs and the staff were falling out in front of the customers, thats when they were around. I waited 20 minutes for drinks and could have walked out without paying, but I stayed to complain instead, what a shame because the food was really good, it just needs a decent manager and a team that works together. There was one member of staff who didn't offend us and was polite and welcoming, perhaps they could do with an away day.

We visted on Saturday 16th January - a party of nine. Service was very poor, food was either dissapointing or incorrect - when it eventually arrived - more than an hour between the starter and the main course? - when a complaint was made we were told that we had to realise they were very busy! Well pardon us for turning up at all..... we were given a discount from the bill but nevertheless not one of the party will be returning any time soon, if at all. The Holly Bush will end up like many other pubs, boarded up, but it wont be the recession to blame! - This description is incomplete, a shortened version of a terrible evening.

 Warm, Friendly & Relaxing
The Turf Pub on the A5 is now a Toby Carvery. Good food, lots of choices of veg all fresh and hot.
Every night after 7pm they have specials added to the carvery menu (eg.. peppered beef) as well as the usual turkey, ham and beef.
Good sized resturant, on the button staff who are friendly and professional.
The bar area is usually busy but not packed so you can always find a table if you just want a drink.
A great all round family friendly pub.

 Black Lion Inn Butterton
Owning and operating a rural pub is long hard work and occasionally, a landlady has to close early to keep appointments that others have liberty to do during any part of the day. Many outlying pubs don't even open on week days and it is no wonder that pubs are closing permanently all over the UK, with the help of the comments of John F who wants put another one out of business by telling his friends to keep away. It's remarkable that he tries to gain access by the backdoor and becomes indignant when the landlady chooses not to miss her appointment to re-open pub for his convenience. Ever heard of phoning ahead?

Don't expect this pub to be open
We arrived 1.30 on a Friday at the midpoint of a 10-mile walk to find the pub closed. We met a couple in the car park who were surprised as they had literally just come out of the pub after having lunch. When we walked round the back to a terraced area a woman opened a door and said 'Yes, can I help?' 'Er, any chance of food, drink?' we asked. 'We're closed' she said. When we queried the time (opening time displayed in front window as 11 - 2.30) she said she had an 'appointment' and was closing early. I wonder what she would have done if a walkers group had turned up at 1 o' clock? We found her offhand attitude unbelievable. We will now avoid it like the plague and advise others to do likewise. However, if you're a walker intent on paying it a visit, make sure you have some emergency rations in your rucksack!!

Nice decor and very nice staff, but mediocre food. If only they spent as much time on the quality as they did the presentation. How difficult can it be to cook a rare steak correctly?

Dirty dip pot placed in the centre of a bed of rice, dirt was totally alien to the meal in question. The manager justified this by saying it was in fact OK because this dirt was from a tray in the kitchen. refund refused and complete lack of care from manager.

 Not impressed
Have visited Newhall Farm on numerous occasions but today will be the last. My mother had a Steak and ale pie with just 3 minute pieces of meat , I had Steak Diane that was that tough an alligator would have struggled to chew it. To compound this none of the waitresses asked us how our meal was ! I would appreciate a response but am not holding my breath.

A word from the new owners
the Fitzherbert Arms has a long history of being a friendly and welcoming pub and with no exception that is how it continues. We have a wonderfully refurbished restaurant and the B&B rooms are country cottage style and all fresh and new! John (my other half) has a passion for his real ales and they are stored and served to perfection. We now cater for weddings and our quaint english country garden gives a stunning setting for photo's or chilling out on a warm summer evening. We have the most talented head chef who creates the most mouth watering dishes and we are just sitting back and waiting for your visit. Hope to see you soon.

Where do i start ,

Well being a regular patron of the turf for sometime it used to be a great place with good food and beer to boot , but alas like all good things they come to an end. New management rolls in and the cost cutting money belt tightening begins . Watered down beer , cold food smaller portions to name but a few , not to mention the foreign object a friend found in his food !!!!! That just being the start of it its obvious the new manager is a young keen go getter with the arrogant attitude to match , i have never in all my days of drinking in pubs and restaurants been spoken to in such a rude manner by such a power seeking fool ( obviously his first pub ) , I know in life we all have targets to meet and profits to make but it comes to something when all the above mentioned are taken into account and you drive all your long standing patrons away . This man ( although only just ) has no people skils whatsoever and certainly cant run a fine establishment that was once the turf lodge.

Onwards and upwards though for good food and proper ales and service with a smile the Wheatsheaf in Cannock is the place to go trust me all the other locals seem to have !!!!

 New Management
I much preferred the old management. I used to be a regular visitor of this pub but since the new management has taken over the tables aren't cleaned nowhere near enough. My last meal there the lettuce was brown and i was told they ran out of fresh salad, so instead I received left overs. And my friend also found a worm in his mash!

Very poor experience with this pub unfortunately and I shall not be returning.

 New Managerment
the turf was a good pub under old management now it just seems to have gone down the drain since its been taken over by a new manager, as said they don't seem to like kids and some of the remarks from the manager are just not called for. This has recently undergone new management and has really gone down hill! All the regulars and locals have stopped going there.  Good and Bad
Strange mixture: two weeks ago I went with family to Sunday lunch and it was fine, a mix of roasts and excellent vegetables. So good we decided to return last weekend, a complete contrast, the menu was roughly the same (as was the chef, a waitress told us) but we sent back three out of four meals twice as they were nearly cold! They did eventually get it right but it was not a good experience. The veg were still outstanding however.
I think this place is in the market for a new owner or manager, someone with a firm hand could make it a winner again.

The Black Friar - The place to be
The Black Friar is a really friendly pub with people of all ages and music interests mixing well. Its small but cosy in the snug area with a real fire to keep you warm. If you want a good friendly night out this is the place to be.

 Nice pub & good grub!
September 2008
The Plough & Harrow at Hill Top used to be a bit of a dump and a little uninviting to say the least. But not any more!
The pub received a complete overhaul earlier this year, and since then the car park has nearly always been full. So last night (Thursday 4th Sept), a friend and I decided to pay a visit, and we were both pleasantly surprised.
The food was very good indeed, with my friend stating that she had just eaten the best Hunters Chicken that she had ever tasted. My Stuffed Salmon with Champagne Sauce was equally just as delicious. At around £7 per dish, we also thought it was excellent VFM.
So don't drive by this little forgotten pub anymore. Venture inside for a meal and you will not be disappointed.

 Bad Staff!!
The pub and area fantatsic being a newcomer to Stone but the staff not so great. I felt ignored and then treated very badly by a bar lady. I was spoken rudely too at the bar ordering and felt a pub of such great presence deserves better than staff like this to demote it. She was a mid thirties to forty year old lady who wore glasses. wont be re-visitng that pub with friends for a nice meal and drink in a hurry.

 Well Done the Fitzherbert
My husband and I are in our forties and having no children frequent the Fitzherbert Arms regularly.

I agree with the previous commentator, the pub offers outstanding value for money and excellent service. If the 50's couple had a bad time it can only be down to their own attitude as in my experience Gina the licensee and her staff are unfailingly polite and welcoming to the many many customers they serve.

I have heard from a number of people about the appalling conduct of the group on that night and quite frankly we are all so glad they have no intention of returning as they would be far from welcome. Having said that I would urge one and all to try the Fitzherbert for themselves - (the Sunday accoustic night particularly) to get a proper impression of what the Fitzherbert is all about, warm welcome and great value .

 Great food and staff
As a resident of Swynnerton I visit the Fitzherbert regularly, one of the big attractions being the food, you can enjoy a really great Pub meal for £5, or if you want to push the boat out you can dine in the restaurant with main courses upto £20, the food regardless of it's position on the menu is always of a really high standard and the service great.

I was unfortunate to be on the table next to the people who posted the previous comments, they must be proffesional complainers, and if they knew anything about food would understand the constraints of cooking a blue steak direct from the fridge. The behaviour of the group was unacceptable and the only thing wrong was that they were not asked to leave the restaurant.

The staff and mangement at the Fitzherbert really do make a big effort to please all customers, i would recommend the pub to anyone looking for a good night out.

manageress lacking in manner to customers
My husband and I are in our mid fifties. This is only the second time in our life that we have ever walked out of a restaurant. (The first time was years ago in France when we waited over an hour and a half with young children for the starter.) Four of our party ordered duck for starter. This was off so we chose something else. Most wines ordered were off as well. My husband ordered a blue steak. He was asked to sign a disclaimer about wanting a blue steak! When it came the steak was well done. Another of our party ordered a steak which also not done as he requested and he returned it. The manageress, Genna was so rude to him when he apologised that it was not as he requested. I said that she was rude to my husband and she should apologise. She refused and I have never been in a restaurant with such a rude manageress. I am disgusgusted with her attitude and will never go there again and and will tell everyone in the surrounding villages of our experience. I hope that not just people thinking of eating there will rethink their plans but that the owners will take this woman to task about her unacceptable attitude.

Get to the point. All of above irrelavent
Clamping boo hoo. Don't use a car park for anything other than who its for. You are not aloud to park any where other than where you are aloud to park- This car park was for people attending the pub- If you want someone's heart to bleed for you then do the decent thing and use the pub and give a comment on the service. I live in Cannock and have never been to this pub but you load of moaners have lived in Rugeley for years and used there car park for years and never had the respect to pay anything for it. Your fine is your back pay and lesson. This site is not for venting anger. I will be heading to Rugeley soon to try this pub to give them the write up they deserve good or bad.

 Disgusting practice
I was clamped earlier today at 4.30pm I had experienced a really busy day looking after 63 elderley people and I had rushed into Rugeley to buy a couple of easter eggs for my friends grandchildren. I had not been into Rugeley for several weeks and knew nothing of this clamping on the Red Lion car park. I genuinely did not see the notices on the side of the pub, they are not at eye level, are infact about 20 to 25ft off the ground. They are very small print and black and white like the colours of the pub and very inconspicuous. I was away from my vehicle for about 15mins and was clamped. The clampers were very rude and aggressive and when I told them I hadn't got £125 they said my vehicle would be towed away and it would cost me £295 to get it out of the pound and £30 a day storage. I was then told that if I didnt pay that which would have amounted to about £500 or £600 the baliffs would be contacted. I offered them my car keys as I could not see me ever being able to pay for this mistake, they refused. I asked them if I could have an extension until the 15th April (date of clamping was the 12th) I would then be paid and could pay them out of my wages. I only earn approx. £800 a month, I am on my own and have no savings or credit whatsoever. I struggle through from month to month. I was told no.I then asked for ten minutes to go to a friends to make a call as I had no credit on my phone. They reluctantly agreed threatening to tow the car if I was any longer. I was so distressed as it was a genuine mistake and £125 is such a lot of money to me. My friend came back with me and she lent me the fee to release my car.The clampers were very rude and aggressive to both of us and sneered at my friend whilst she tried to plead my case.My friend is a long term resident of Rugeley and very well respected in the community and it made me very angry and frustrated to see her being treated so badly. As we walked away they threatened to put a fixed penalty ticket on my car as well if I didn't move it fast. I later returned to the car park to ask them where my house keys were and after some investigation I found them both in the Red Lion Pub drinking alcohol and playing the gaming machine.,obviously relaxing after a good day's work !!!! (sorry that was sarcasm). I have never intentionally broken the law in my life, I work hard for very little money and have done all my life, I try to be kind and fair with everyone I meet and I am always willing to accept when I am wrong. I feel very upset and angry about this and I think the way this clamping firm operate is immoral, unfair ,sly and aggressive.

We recently went to the shoulder for a few beers when we noticed the food coming from the kitchen was nothing short of mouthwatering. We requested a menu and right there asked if there was a table available. After a little wait we sat down to what I can only describe as one of the best pub meals (sorry,THE best pub meal) I have ever had.If you do anything you must try the Shoulder for great food and a relaxed atmosphere.

My wife today also got clamped whilst popping into a nearby shop, she knew nothing of the clamping scheme. She was due to pick our 7 year old son up from school, obviously the clampers couldn't have cared less about this. They are scum, and the brewery who own this pub are aswell. Please don't park on this car park and think twice about visiting this pub. I bet its rubbish anyway

This was one of the first pubs i went into as a child. I remember the river, the horses, the concrete tunnel and the Shell Xmas Parties and the kids room. Used to go every Sunday with my brother and Dad he played dominos while we played outside until he snook us in.

The car park beside this pub has been used for may years by local residents for short term parking. A few weeks ago, small notices were erected telling people that clamping was in operation. On Saturday, my 86 year old father was clamped and the company refused to make a phone call for him. He was only advised to hurry up and find the £125 fine or he would be towed away and then it would cost him £295. The whole episode has greatly upset him. He was out of the car for 7 minutes only, buying flowers for my mother's grave. Don't know what the pub is like but leave anyone reading this to make their own mind up...

Very poor - avoid at all costs
Very rude staff, actually going out of their way to avoid saying please and thank you. Poor food - veg was clearly dated (yellow brocolli, brown lettuce, uncrunchy peppers). Dirty glasses - of 4 drinks ordered, all glasses (pints, and wine glasses) were dirty, with smears/grease/fingerprints, and in one case residual beer caked onto the inside of the glass. Overall, a very poor experience - avoid at all costs!

Perfect opportunity for me and me girls to stand in the line wiv nothing on, and shout our vulgar dissaproval of every single other person in the queue in an ear piercing, shrieky, pre pubescant girly manner.

 Family Friendly?!
Like many others, I am astonished and outraged by Ms Slater's comments to the local press regarding breastfeeding. Personally I discreetly feed my baby as and when needed, and have never had anything but positive feedback from the few people that have actually spotted me doing so. Far from staying away, I shall take great delight in visiting the pub - I'm always one to take up a challenge ...!!!

 Freindly pub!
Our local!! We are always made to feel very welcome, food is standard pub fare but they do have great offers on like Curry and a pint for a fiver on a wednesday!

Its a great place to meet with friends and chat. Some of the other bars in Cannock can be a little too loud for this!!! Depends on what you want from your night out I guess!

I agree that the staff here are very very polite, well turned out and cant do enough for you. The carvery is of a good standard with lots of FRESH veg and the yorkshire puddings are HUGE!!!!!! The pub is very clean and generally a good place for a get-together as its a place where you can chat properly - not competing with loud muic etc.

Kids welcome - babies excluded it seems
I'm disgusted at the attitude of landlady Vicky Slater towards breastfeeding mothers and having breastfed my son for exclusively for the first six months of his life and beyond as recommended by the government's Department of Health I will be steering clear of her establishment and telling my friends to do the same.
It's narrow-minded opinions and prejudice like Miss Slater's that ensure the UK's breastfeeding rates remain the lowest in Europe and impact on the long-term health of millions.

Breastfeeding mum
Family friendly - but only if you don't breastfeed
I can't believe the landlady of this establishment - advertising as a family-friendly place but banishing breastfeeding mums. What does she think they do - blatantly expose both breasts and stick a tassel on the breast that the baby isn't feeding from??? All breastfeeding mums do it discreetly, for their sake and for those around them. Would the landlady rather have a screaming hungry baby??

 'Kids Welcome' - What Rot!
'MOTHERS should be banned from breastfeeding their hungry babies in public, an Eccleshall landlady claims. The George Hotel manager Vicki Slater says she finds the act ‘offensive’ and asks any mother who breastfeeds in the bar or restaurant to stop' Staffordshire Newsletter 24 Nov 2005

We will be sure to give this establishment a wide berth and also to warn any other parents away. Here's a lesson on how to lose business in one easy step - make offensive and ignorant comments to the press about breastfeeding mothers.

A mother
Avoid if you have a family
Fancy advertising your prejudice and ignorance in the local press. If any landlady can be that ignorant about what is and what isn't offensive, I'd hate to see what she did to the beer.

 backwards attitudes
The Landlady (yes a woman!) has spoken out in the local paper dissallowing women to breastfeed in her establishment as it's offensive and disgusting. Won't honour her opinion with an argument just thought anyone going should know the facts. Enjoy!

 disgusting attitude towards families
This pub should not be able to advertise as 'family friendly' when mothers who are doing the best thing for their children are discriminated against. This landlady, clearly ignorant of the true purpose of womens breasts and the benefits derived from breastfeeding, claims that breastfeeding is offensive to her but by going to the press with her views, she has offended far more people than she could have realised. I will certainly not be visiting this establishment and I would urge any family or person that supports the breastfeeding mother to do the same.

 Won't be coming here.
Im not a mother myself but I find your attitude towards breastfeeding mothers offensive.I hope word will spread about this and your place will be known for something other than a 'kids welcome' establishment.
Monday, November 28, 2005Rating: No rosettes

J Sharp
This pub does not deserve to be advertised as a 'family' establishment. The landlady has stated that breastfeeding mothers such as myself are not welcome to sit in the bar area. My view is that we should clearly spend our money elsewhere.
Monday, November 28, 2005Rating: No rosettes

 Shame about the landlady
Steer clear of this pub - kids are not welcome at all, not ones that are breastfed as per government and WHO guidelines anyway - the landlady finds this 'offensive'. I find her offensive actually...
Monday, November 28, 2005Rating: No rosettes

 Callous Advertising
The owner of this place has obviously had a 'brainwave' for getting free advertising for what is an overated establishment. She has been cynically making antibreastfeeding comments to the press in return for free advertising.

 no feeding mums allowed???
I will not be coming back here as I've heard that the landlady is so narrow minded that she won't allow breast feeding mums to feed hungry babies in the restaurant or bar area!

As I'm due to have a baby soon and hope to breast feed for as long as i can (as is recommended by doctors, government etc etc etc) I would be horrified to have to go into a room on my own to feed my child!

Shocked - and definitely off the favourite list!

An imposing looking pub from the outside with large car park at front.
As first time visitors we were made to feel welcome & felt relaxed even though it was busy. The atmosphere was great with lots going on both in the lounge and the games room where both darts and pool were being played.
The beer was nice and very reasonably priced.

The George has been my local for a number of years now (I'm 22) and it has never failed to provide a great place to eat and drink. All age ranges are seen in there (apart from under 18s) and families and kids are welcome. The home-brewed beer is award-winning, and the manager has a habit of only hiring young blonde barmaids. Does it get any better? There is also seating at the front and rear.

The lounge used to have a great deal of local live bands on a regular basis, it was the only venue in the city, the music they played was varied and original, now, its all stopped.  Good food, but
Hopefully, ours was just a one off experience - but I took a family of friends to the Malt Shovel for theirfood reputation.
The food was indeed excellent - but it took over an hour to arrive. In fact two other tables arrived and ordered after us, but were eating a long time before us.
What was particularly sad, was that after chasing up out meal, the three adults meals arrived, but we were told that the two childrens meals of simply burger/chips and beans would be delayed.
Oh well - don't let this put anyone off. The food WAS worth it! (In the end)

 Superb Idyllic Pub
Visited the newly refurbished Nelson Inn recently to be met with a vibrant atmosphere that was definately worth the journey. If you can find your way through the maze of country lanes you won't be disappointed. This idyllic pub has been transformed from a tired country pub into a classy, relaxed bar that serves food to rival anything I've tasted before. Everything is reasonably priced and the staff can't do enough for you. The Place even has the soundtrack to Black Adder amongst other comedy classics playing in the toilets. A credit to whoever completed the transformation.
