 Builders Yard
Yes it is a pub.... well that's the positives out of the way. If you know the owner you are welcome if not watch out?!?! More of a builders / lads yard than a pub. glasses dirty, staff not interested. Interesting aroma

 Great live music
The venue had great live music nights in the Blues Bar down stairs but the upstairs Hot Rock wasn't as good.
I believe it has closed down now, such a shame.

Fantastic Food excellent value for money
Took our kids on grand national day and although the pub was busy and clearly under staffed we enjoyed a fantastic meal and our kids loved the outside play area.

 Nice community pub
A lovely pub, I went in on a weekday so I guess it's different to when there is a match on. The Guinness tasted great and the bar staff took great care when serving it, ensuring it settles before finishing the pour. I was in there while the pool team were practicing and they were a friendly bunch, as were the locals, who were welcoming. Bar staff were chatty and welcoming, and had a good knowledge of the local area suggesting good restaurants and takeaways nearby. A pleasure to visit.

Best drink I have ever had! The landlord made some mulled cider, it was warming as was the pub, so friendly as a lady on my own I feel I could walk into the Crown and Sceptre any time.

 Disappointing meal
The Willow tree carvery was a big let down. I was given a childs' plate, with very little meat on,& ALL the veg was very undercooked. The sprouts resembled bullets. The chef needs a course in cooking-we will not be returning there,EVER.

I was telling the Landlord that his pool table was not working as far as some coins that I put in the slot were concerned. I was saying to my friend it may be a scam as he did not want to look at the fault. But instead of being like a reasonable person he grabbed me really hard and threw me to the ground. My ribs still hurt. but what even surprised me more is that my mate asked him to stop and just touched his back and he gave my mate a punch in the face. Alex is to scared to make a statement with the police. I thought he was a bit strange when he served me a pint and burped. How did he get that pub was it back handers. My phone number 07446616076. if anyone wants to talk more about this matter

 An experince
This a local pub with good pub grub. The landlord is very helpful in spite of what has been written before the only truth I could find in previous comments was the lack of hair and a couple of tattoos. The locals are colourful which is why its and experience. I would say its is slightly over priced when you consider other pubs in the area.

 Pasty Problems !!!!!!
While waiting for the exotic dancers
i ordered a cheese and onion pasty.
As i put it down to answer a call of a nature.
the Gipsy looking women behind the bar came and cleared my table
i was disgusted as i had only taken a bite and as it was hot was waiting for it to cool down.
The Gipsy looking girl would not give me a refund or another pasty
so i have barred myself from going in again
you have just lost one of your best customers and the girls will not be very happy lady,as i am one of the best tippers and i dont try and grope them in their secret places.

 Down Hill
The Union Inn
used to be a friendly pub full of Torquay United football fans.
sadly they no longer seem to drink in the Union.
a lot of the people in there are either from the drop in center Leonard Stocks and the only females seem to be the local ladies of the night who work the strip at Paignton and down town Torquay.
not a place i would recomend.

 Liver is amazing.
we live in Derby so we visit whenever we are in Torquay which is every 3 months or so. The Dumpling is by far the best pub/ restaurant to go to. The beer and ales arn't the best but that is outweighed by the delicious food and hospitality......

 Excellent Value
The Devon Dumpling has been a lifeline to us since we moved to the area a month ago. We've been so busy decorating, we've relied on the pub for our main meal of the day 2 or 3 times a week and have never been disappointed.
The pub is so popular we've had to book a table a few times, but usually a table comes free around 8 o'clock. The staff are always friendly and the food is excellent value- the small steak for just over a fiver is wonderful. They are happy to adapt the menu e.g. if you don't want chips or potatoes you can have fresh veg instead- good for the waistline and just as filling.
Because the pub is popular the atmosphere is great too. We'll definitely be seeing in the New Year here.

Keep it local
 Better than before by far
New Owners have purchased the restaurant/pub in May 2010 and the food is far better than before. I have eaten there about 5 times now and it is just getting better. The new managers have gotten rid of all the old pre-made dishes and are sourcing local fish, meat and veg. I over heard one of the chef's discussing the bread they will be making on site soon too.
I am loving the Tavern more than ever now

 Best Of British
Last summer ( 2008 ), my wife, daughter and myself, went across from Northern Ireland to Torquay, for our holidays.

We went to The Thatched Tavern twice, for lunch, and it was absolutely fantastic.

Their menu is varied, and not too pricey, with a great choice of desserts too. They also stock a very good choice of ales/wines.

The only down side, is, the bus service, at night from Torquay Town Centre, is not great, which is why we opted for lunchtime visits.

Their staff are first class, as were the locals, and my young daughter received a very hospitable welcome.

Well worth the visit - try their home-made pies ( proper pies ).

10 out of 10. Will be back again. Best Of British.

Lloyds is a great bar. The staff are really friendly, the food is good and the drink is possibly the cheapest in the bay. There is a mixture of all ages and a DJ at weekends. A great place to go for lunch or to start a night out.

The nicest pub in Torquay, they have new owners. The service was spectacular, the waitresses trained, very polite and easy to talk to. We did not have to wait long for our food, the presentation on the food was great. The menu is amazing, there is such a variety of wonderful foods. A very friendly pub. The new owners and 100% better than before. As soon as you walk in there is a smiling face either the lovely bar maid or the hilarious bar man welcoming you. Very much recommended.

Thatched Tavern Inn (aka Fawlty Towers)
Funny that this place is in Torquay, Basil Fawlty is alive and well and managing this place!. Service is appalling. Waitresses are not trained, have no idea of how to deal with the public (or even speak english!). Manager has many problems, mainly psychological. Fantastic location but spoiled by rude and rubbish management. Apparently it was our fault that the table was not cleared...that no cutlery was provided with the deserts...and that the waitress could not find our table.....KEEP AWAY!!!!!

Now in the capable hands of Kath and Paddy -late Saemus O'Donnells-
this is a fine local with good grub and good choice of ales. Three pool tables and a very spacious bar and lounge make this a great place to be day or night.
Garden at rear for those two days of summer. Enjoy.

Very comfortable pub with friendly Management and staff, but no food except high season.
Maniac dog runs up to you barking like crazy.Every time this happens someone has to calm the mutt down. Must put a lot of strangers off.
They have a family room but children tend to be in the bar area and nothing is said, Pity.

You have to have been a regular for seven years before you get an 'hello, how are you?@ in this place.
A few locals hang about the bar whispering and peering over their shoulders at any strangers who happen to have ventured in. Terrible.

Not enough chairs and tables to sit at during the day so soon fills up. Bad if you want to eat. However you can sit uotside during the two days of summer taking in the traffic fumes.

Food and drink standard OK

Great pub as children not allowed -so has that real pub atmosphere.
Manager can be a bit iffy at times but the food is of good quality and ample portions too.

This little pub on the main road through Babbacombe has the most fantastic atmosphere. It has a skittle alley, pool table and darts and good ale!
Jacky & Graham the landlords are in a class of their own.
Try it, you won't be disappointed.

A real gem of a pub.
Almost on the seafront, though hidden away, the Hole in the Wall is a real gem - a truly traditional little pub, with several real ales and an outdoor seating area.
