 Amazing variety and taste
We came across this pub on our 4 day break in Devon and a brilliant find it was too. It is situated in a small village so not only are the staff friendly so are all the other guests. The food is prepared and cooked by the chef, amazing variety and taste for the size of the pub/ restaurant, so make sure you book before you set off, we were lucky just to walk in. It is a shame we live so far away in London and this is not our local eatery. Great evening on a cold November night at the table by the fire place.

 Friendly pub
Looking at earlier comments I see they refer to the predecessors of Dave and Debbie, the present landlord and landlady who are doing a grand job.
Good value food and if the beer is not satisfactory it is changed without arguement.

We eat here regularly, the food is excellent and the welcome even better. Very reasonably priced as well. Would highly recommend.

Went there last saturday, and very disapointed with the quality of the Bass, it was far to warm, they need to sort out the temperature of the water jackets, if that what they are. Used to serve the beat pint of Bass in the area years ago. I know, because I've worked behind this Bar.

Well what can we say, The landlady needs a wash and wear a bra please. The food was ok, the place needs a good clean and seems to have anyone working there.

 Excellent; New management
The Claycutter is under new management!

On Saturday 13th August I had a birthday meal with my family. The place came across as a traditional pub with a welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff.

Our meal was surprising for all of the right reasons. Good menu, reasonable prices, very generous portions and absolutely delicious. The best meal out we’ve had for a very long time.

We ordered a mixture of full meals, light bits and children’s meal; all excellent.

My only suggestion would be that if you are going to have a full meal, make sure you have one of the magnificent desserts and don’t eat for about a day before :-)

 who is cooking
ok so who is cooking here. What person is in charge, is it the mother or the father. This Pub if you can call it that, has being longing for change, but then they sacked the chef that made all the bread and ice cream, as well as all the desserts, but the biggest pain was the landlady and her management nonskills. Get a doctor for this place

dissatisfied diner
 pretentious staff, poor food
Don't see the point of putting 'reserved' on every table. The beef in the 'beef' curry I am sure was shoe leather, I found difficulty in cutting it. The cod was undercooked. All in all, if I was starving I might go there again, but then again perhaps not!!

 Dog friendly
We visited The Kestor Inn yesterday and discovered a dog friendly welcoming atmosphere. Although we didn't eat, the food that came out to the diners in the sunny garden looked excellent. The pub has recently re-opened and the current landlord and his wife have certainly cleaned the place up.

Mrs P Day
My friend, daughter and I found this pub by accident when we were on holiday in Dawlish. The staff were polite and couldn't do enough for us. The food was tasty, hot and a good portion. Don't forget, you cant judge a book by its cover, and that goes for pubs as well. I would recommend this pub to anyone visiting the area. If we are down that way again we will certainly go back.

A happy camper
 Great food fantastic service
Have to agree, my husband and i had a wonderful 3 course meal, decent home cooked food, the steak and kid pud was to die for. This coupled with the service, friendly, attentive and good fun, and ladies if you like 'orlando bloom' the landlord will keep you happy all nite. He kept his staff organised and happy and made the whole night a really happy experience

This is a lovely little pub with Colin and his wife going all out to please and make you feel welcome. At this time of year it's wonderful to sit outside with a beer and watch all the swallows buzzing around and gathering on the wires ready to migrate.

 Coombe Cellars Overpriced
Visited Coombe Cellars on the 12th of June 2008. Clearly new owners since our last visit. We had a starter and a main meal. And whilst the main meal at best could be descrbed as adaquate the starter price, quantity and quality was almost offensive. When we complained they explained that it was thier Head office that set price and portion controls but that they always took on board customer comments . Not a pub I would visit again no matter how picturesque.

Clare Vickers
 Country pub with food
Excellent food but it's quite a small pub so booking is necessary, especially at weekends. Traditional roasts and English fare, well cooked, reasonably priced. Friendly atmosphere, and they know you once you've been a couple of times, unlike some local pubs! You can sit outside on a pleasant deck in summer, but there isn't much of a view.

Grumpy middle aged man
As along time regular the TMO has sucomed to poor management and poor staffing. The ales are often very aged and new barrels not ready. It's such a shame good staff and service are long gone!
Iv'e often waited 5mins for a drink and staff to appear and wounder what the problem is! PS why is there a TV in the Public bar?

 Have to Agree
Have to agree to some extent with Mrs Jefford. The standard of the food has dropped dramatically. The food is acceptable, but in no way matches previous standards. I notice from the menu that the pub is now part of a chain...is this the cause of the shift downwards in food and beer quallity and choice. The service was friendly.

bad service, poor quality of food.
having previously enjoyed the two mile oak, on our recent visit we were left feeling very disappointed in both the standard of service and the very poor quality of the food. they may be advertising a new menu but i feel that its nothing to boast about. sadly we will not return or recomend the place to anyone, in fact we would go as far as to put anyone off. what a great shame for what was once a great pub.

Amazing place! Home made wines, real cider straight from the barrel, fresh local produced pub snacks. Friendly staff and locals, not been affected by any commercial rubbish. Just wished my mates drank cider so i could go more often. By far the best watering hole in Newton, don't miss it.
