Went for a sunday lunch today, my husband asked for a pint of bitter, no bitter, so asked for pint of pale ale, no pale ale! The little waitress was running around serving, cleaning tables and dryin cutlery, while the incredibly large barman hung over the dirty glasses, extremely large belly hangin out of his pants, which rather put me off my lunch! I felt sorry for the poor girl waiting on. When we were finished our meal, the plates sat on the table for quite a while, we were not asked if we wanted a dessert, neither were we asked if the meal was ok! Which it was not. What has happened to good trainimg and customer care!

 21st birthday
June 27th 1964. Came ashore from a ship called the Orecrest on which I was a junior engineer, having just arrived from Kirkeness in Norway with iron ore for the steel plant.
The aim was to have a celebratory drink in the Ancient Mariner....ended up getting quite drunk...great pub though, a favourite with the seamen. ...Happy days, sad to hear of it's demise!

 How refreshing! What lovely decor!
I couldn't fault the service there. The chips tasted so fresh and the oil was obviously spotlessly clean.

The pie was filled with succulent meat and the gravy and pastry were obviously home made.

The beer was well dispensed and in clean glasses.

The Fosters & Kronenburg I tasted were obviously dispensed by the well presented licensee, Louise.

I can heartily recommend this venue!

 Christmas dinner -
Attended hubby's work's Christmas dinner on Saturday 17th December 2011. Worst Xmas dinner I've ever had.
Starters - Veg Soup :( - well that was what it said on the menu, I've had better cuppa soups - Kettle must have gone off the boil, home made it was not. there was no side plate for the bread roll , so used my serviette as a plate & had to use the dinner knife to butter the roll.

Dinner :( - 3 scoops of watery potatoe spread across the plate, Top side of beef? more like shoe leather, Cauliflower served in side dish full of water, Brussel sprouts OMG - could have used them as golf balls, Me thinks they just dipped a leaf in the hot water and they jumped out of the pan, you couldn't cut them with a knife.
Also served on cold plates

Sweet :( - Xmas pudding and custard, Menu should be re written to say see through cut throat xmas pudding and lumpy bumpy custard, it was so thin you could practicably see through it. No brandy sauce or white sauce more like Birds packet custard complete with lumps, not only that when holding the dessert dish upside down the sweet did not move, you had to scrape it of the plate. Was so disgusted I did not even attempt to eat it, plate was so cold, & it was obvious the food was overheated in the microwave.

Where did they get the cook? off the street !!!!!! I suggest he/she learns to cook in private or goes to catering collage before being hosted out in the public domain.

Coffee and mince pies :( - Ha! Coffee was as weak as dish water, and the cheap shop bought mince pies, well - hubby's mince pie had 2 silver foils attached one used, one definitely thinks it was a left over from a previous lunch.

We went home and had beans on toast, far more enjoyable hot and fulfilling.

Will we go back, what do you think?
Will we recommend to friends, family and enemies - I think not.

Room for improvement - Loads.

 Free speech isn't the issue
Free speech is one thing. Encouraging people like the BNP is another. I applaud the management of the Kings Arms for taking a stand. Let the BNP assemble at the previous reader's house if they like. This pub is a friendly local who welome anyone, as long as they are not psychos.

Avoid This Pub it Bans Free Speach !
Being a regular visitor to Maryport (and its pubs) i was astonished to find out from a local that i know that the Kings Arms in Maryport has imposed a ban serving certain groups most recently banning BNP Councillors from meeting there, this did not used to be the case so i am not sure if the management has changed or something, i am not saying that you should let abusive or dangerous people make an neusence in a pub but BNP (elected by the local people) councillors which includes a Doctor to meet in a very respectible manner to discuss relevant issues, to ban these people seems to be a complete dampening on freedom of speach, i certainally will not drink in a place that restricts peoples freedom to express themselves no matter who they are ! a big silly move in my book and i will not back.

 Dodgy hand shakes
The Bounty Inn is quite possibly the greatest pub in the world. The staff are great, always welcoming and ready to have a laugh. The beer is wonderful. The only down side to the place is that its always full of masons!, suppose you can't have everything!
Monday, February 13, 2006Rating: rosettes

 Great pub
The Bounty Inn is a fine establishment, but thats where it ends. The staff are rude, and at times, over familiar. The majority of the customers would have been housed in Dovenby Hall, until it's closure in 1992. Tommy Wubber is the resident entertainer- need I say more??
Monday, February 13, 2006Rating: rosettes

 Best pub in town
I can only recommend the Ship Launch as a smart, tidy, clean and no nonesense pub with great traditional ales, plenty of room, good patronage and plenty of character & characters. Easily the best pub in town where the quality clientele do their drinking.

what maryport pubs are missing is a few exotic dancers, themed nights, body shots,an endless list of random drinks, the place needs a lot more excitment lose the old men sitting at the end of the bar and the people who have nothing better to do than slag everyone off and liven things up and you got yourself a banging place for nightlife

The Shipwrights is a very friendly place. All the staff are a delight to talk to, especially the landlady Mel. Perfect for meeting up with friends and having a good old natter. I would reccomend this pub to anybody!!! 17 out of 10.

Warm and relaxing, but good for nights out too.
Supposedly the most haunted pub in Cumbria, the pub offers drinks, entertainment, and has a small coffee shop. It's friendly, warm atmosphere could never fail to satisfy, and i would reccomend it to anyone visiting the lakes.
I used to live there, and even though i no longer do, i still think it's the best pub around- certainly in Egremont.
