Good local pub with great value food
We go here a lot and I disagree with the comments about it being cliquey. I don't know anyone there but always feel comfortable. We go for food rather than just drinks. The dining room has been done up recently and is really nice The food is great value and very good. The roast dinners are best and only £5.95. Beer is cheap at around £2 a pint. It's a nice local type pub. Not posh but not rough. I like it.

I have only recently moved into the area and the closest pub to me is The Tamar.
Although only very small inside, I have never been in a more friendlier pub, the Landlord and landlady are very friendly, welcoming, and as for the regulers in there, its as if I have been a local all my life.
a better pub I honestly do believe would be difficult to find

One clicky pub, you walk in and it all goes quiet and if your not a regular/one of the locals you get stared like an alien with 3 heads, absolutly hate this pub, one big click and made to feel unwelcome, stay away

Mr joseph baron
 Mother lived there.
My mother was Winifred Frost she was the daughter of Tom Frost. I believe that Tom Frost was the first landlord of the Colliers Rest. My mother described it to me when we lived at 143 Chapel St next door to Halliwell's butchers and Ashton's grocery shop.Ashtons and our old house were semis and have since been demolished.I visited the pub many times with my friend Malcolm Bailey. Malcolm was a weightlifter and I trained with him.His brother Maurice played for Leigh. We always enjoyed a pint in the Colliers. I was an apprentice to E Platt decorator on Twist Lane next to the river Glaze. The end house in the short terrace.I live in Norfolk at the moment close to King's Lynn.

 Rubbish!
What a rubbish pub. Wondered why when walked into it there was aero atmosphere and only a few customters. Walked to the bar at 8.10 with a menu in my hand only to be told last orders at 8. Asked if chef could be tempted to cook me a snack only to be pointed to an obese lady already sat at the bar drinking who was the chef and not in the slightest interested in my hunger. I commented that having traverssed the Penines I was still in the UK, felt like I'd arrived in the 3rd World. Meanwhile a few mins walk down the road was a Wetherspoons who served food untill 11pm rammed with customers. Wonder if the owners of silly Cheery Gardens can see the commercial signicance of this?

The staff are very friendly and polite, the food is excellent and of a very high standard for pub food, the management need to treat their staff with some respect as ive heard 1 actually swear and rant at them infront of people which i find very unprofessional and i myself felf uncomfortable

The bowling green is a well run pub with polite and hard working staff. The quality of food and drink is fantastic and up to a very high standard. The cleanliness of the is a very high standard too i can't recall ever being in another pub as clean as this one. I totally disagree with all the negative comments on here.

 excellent
Great pub been in a few times, the food is fantastic and the pub has been reburished to a high standard, most of the staff are friendly, found 1 to be a bit abrupt and a little short but unsure if it was the liverpudlian accent that made her seem this way.

Extremely expensive beer and unfriendly staff and management. They need to learn about customer service, Charging top prices doesn't mean you can treat the punters like dirt! Strongly recommend the nearby Canal Turn for excellent customer service and tasteful decor.

 Great pub & chefs
Lovely atmosphere apart from when the tall blonde is working behind the bar, she has a tendancy to stare at customers, think her name begins with an E?. However the food is lovely and i believe the chef deserves more recognition.

i travel around the country a lot and this is possibly the most unfriendly pub i have ever been in. the inhabitants were on some sort of power trip(trip being the correct word). me and my friend were roughed up for having the ordasity to giggle about the singer. my rating would be in the minus if it was aloud, so 1 point for the roof as it was raining outside

 Wacky warehouse needs more staff.
I found that when I visited the wacky warehouse just after christmas with my children, there was not enough staff. The staff are all young and no authority was in order. The hygiene of the place is very poor, as I found they were moping the toilets with the same mop as the food area. contamination is easy spred in this way. If young children are crawling around they could become ill. Food Hygiene Authorities should be contacted so this can be resolved before children become ill.

 Red Robin Wigan
31st Oct 2009. I visited the Red Robin pub at Wigan on the way home from a shopping trip along with my 8 and a half months pregnant daughter and my husband. I ordered a meal which consisted of the ribs on arriving to my table the plate was full to the top with the sauce so much the under side of the plate was covered .The chips were all soaked and un eatable and floating on top was a bowl of coleslaw. To my dismay my food was cold the ribs uncooked and disgusting, we were late arriving so maybe at 9oclock every one is ready to go home but it is no excuse for the food that arrived on my table. My daughter’s food was cold the bacon on her chicken burger was un eatable, my husbands curry was the only thing hot what was edible. I told the waitress who told the manager as I thought she needed to know. I always go to buy 1 get 1 free pubs as with a family they are fantastic, I even visited your pub last week and had a fantastic meal for 5 pounds each with my sister ,so as you can imagine I was very disappointed we threw away 25 pounds last night. This is the first time I have ever complained about a meal I have had but I thought you needed to know to put it right.
Your early response to my complaint would be welcomed.

Yours Faithfully

 Great Venue
Being just across the road from St David's Church, and a stone's throw from Our Lady's, this pub is a perfect venue for Christening parties or even funeral teas. Close enough to Haigh Hall to act as a meeting point for larger weddings etc too - the new landlord should take advantage of this opportunity and establish closer links with the community - especially as the parish hall next door has a leaky roof and can't currently be used for events. The 'Balc' has a lovely, cosy atmosphere, and a nice little garden for the children - well worth a visit.

 Lovely Setting, Angry Landlord!
We visited Seven Stars in Leigh on Saturday 24th June at 6.30pm, having cycled from Reigate. It was a beautiful evening and we promptly sat ourselves down in the lovely beer garden, whilst browsing the menu. When ordering our food we were told they preferred us to sit under the covered area as they had a big party of 35 people in the restaurant and it would be too far for them to walk up the garden. My husband said that he would gladly come and collect the food once it was ready. Half an hour later, the landlord appeared with our food and his words were all the table have gone now in the covered area and I'am not very happy. He literally then threw the plates on the table. It's a wonder they didn't go on the floor. There were some friends who happened to be in the garden with us and they were absolutely astounded at his attitude. We were there a long time and quite frankly didn't feel like spending any more money on drinks as we had spent £40.00 on food, only to be spoken to like naughty little children who were not sitting in the right place!!! I really do not feel inclined to go back to the Seven Stars after this incident, which is a shame, because it is a lovely pub in a fantastic setting!! Very disappointed of Reigate.

 Best Pub in Wigan
Situated at top lock next to the canal bank, it's one of those out of the way gems that you discover once in a blue moon..

The environment is very cosy and smoke free!, and the food! is excellent, truly top rate I can't recommend it highly enough.

Personally I think Dave must have been been in a different pub, as I really do not share his view of the Landlord & Landlady they were very welcoming and very pleasant to talk to, which is lets be honest a rarity in Wigan. Whenever work takes me nearby I always pop in for the man size grill, it's truly mouth watering. If only I lived closer, I'd make it my local!!

 evil owner
I was donating blood in a van next door and the landlady fined me 60 pounds for parking in the pub car park. She made a lot of cash for some one that day as she fined every one. I understand that it is private property but come on I explained I was giving blood and there was nobody else in the spaces or the pub (wonder why??)! lets hope she never needs blood one day. The funny thing was, I was going to have lunch after donating in the pub but 60 quid fine took all cash I had and she would not remove it even if I purchased food or drink. Thanks for rewarding my good deed.

New Owners. New Real Ales. Live bands.
The new owners, Cathy and Russ Jervis, have turned the pub around from a basic drinking-hole to a comfortable venue, with live bands every Saturday (Spidermonkeys, Clown Prince, The Hammond et al). The real ales on offer, currently Flowers Original and Spitfire, are invariably excellent - though sadly restricted, at present, to only two - watch this space Cathy and Russ??! Good food also served.

We really enjoyed our meal at the Dicconson Arms, October'05. We visited one saturday night. The food was tremedous and the waiter was very nice and friendly, Tim, i think his name was. We enjoyed our visit that much, we decided to return on Sunday. The Roast Lunch was excellent and once again the service was excellent, this time we were served by another exceptional waiter with dark brown hair. We left a large tip and we left with big smiles on our faces.

However, my son was walking through the bar area, when the barmaid, asked him to use the other toilets located in the restaurant. He said that she was very snotty with him. As we left the country style pub i noticed that she was giving us dirty looks.

So there for i feel that we are unwelcomed. I dont think we will return here again. The food was excellent, the waiters were excellent and the experience was excellent, although what i take it, the manageress didnt welcome us at all!

 Busy but good
Always popular and busy. Good food and well priced drinks. Sometimes a delay for food at peak periods but generally worth the wait.

 Cheap and cheerful
Always very busy but then again the prices are great and the food is very good so they deserve to do well. Staff aren't always as pleasant as you'd want them to be but that might be because they are so busy. All in all well worth a visit - anytime!

 Horrible Pub
This is a horrible pub were the service is rubbish and lower class.
The waitresses do not care and the food is straight out of packages

Quaint out of the way pub.
After a recent visit to this establishment I found it to be quaint but small becoming quite congested later on. Food reasonable but plain. Entertainment both inside and outside went on till late. Landlady reminde me of a cross between Dame Edna Everidge and Joan Rivers. Pity the landlord and landlady didn't live up to their name (Jolley).

 Football, pies and good ales
The Pear is a great little boozer, not far from the JJB stadium and very handy for a beer or two before or after a game. Opposition fans as long as they know how to behave. There is generally a good choice of real ales. Excellent value food, home made and the pie is as good as you can expect in Wigan.

 Proper pub, full of characters
Traditional run pub with plenty of characters to make the entertainment. Not one of your poncey plastic palaces, this is a proper pub which is unfortunately a dying breed. If you want a good laugh and a good pint, pay a visit.

 Fabulous
The Foot, as known to locals, is a lovely, welcoming and friendly pub run by Frank and Diane. It's a pub that is cosy and old-fashioned, yet modern. It's lovely.

 Shanrock Inn closed 1905
Hello, I am writing from Canada to find out if this is the location of the former Shamrock Inn that my great grand father stayed at in 1881. It was closed down in 1905 and became the Derby Arms. My goal is to find a photograph of the old inn if one exists. It would be added to a family history I am writing. Many thanks. Joyce Lennard

 a great pub
When you walk into the pub you are just swamped by the super atmosphere. They make a cracking T-bone steak. Also you can have a cracking pint of the local tipple at reasonably low prices.

 Good, traditional pub.
This is one of my favourite pubs in Wigan. The atmosphere is really friendly, match days are exciting (large screen is a bonus) and quiz nights on a Tuesday offer punters the chance to play their cards right and win cash prizes. The only criticisms I have are that it is only a small pub, and there is no pool table.

 See Jack Glass
The Wheatsheaf is in real need of a makeover. It isn't the nicest pub inside, but one thing I can say is that the atmosphere when Jack Glass plays on Sundays is great.
Don't expect sophistication, just a good laugh.

 Great Pub
The Bowling Green is a great pub with a lovely atmosphere. It has something for everyone. Families are welcome during the day and there is often a giant slide for the kids. By night it is a popular pub with a good atmosphere. For Sports fans, there is a TFT screen in the main bar area. There is also a separate room with a massive screen for all the top games. Most Saturdays there is live music.
The only improvement I can see is that the food menu isn't great (not enough choice) and the live music should be varied more (it seems to be the same acts on a rotating basis each week)
