 Wrong phone number
The Burton House, Cramlington, Northumberland does not have a telephone. The number given on your site is for a private address which is being plagued night and day by callers trying to contact the Burton House. Could you please remove the phone number from your site.

 Clayton Arms
I'm not sure which Clayton Arms you are refering to but the Clayton Arms at Palace Road, Bedlington Station is the roughest pub I have ever EVER been in!!! The is evident by the number of windows that have been smashed for several months.

Wear a stab vest!!!

 Nice roadside inn
I stayed at the Bluebell recently on 2 occasions and found it to be a most comfortable ,welcoming pub with decent ale and very good food. The landlady has only recently acquired this pub and she has done a nice job of bringing this previously closed pub back to life. well worth a visit.

 Lovely village pub
I went recently to the Pack horse at Ellingham. It is a hidden gem, great real ale and a brilliant Lasagne!
Friendly staff and set in such a picturesque spot. well worth seeking out if you are in the area.

Did J. Peebles give a talk at Jabes Peebles?Corrected, takhns! Where Jabes Peebles came from I have no idea Cosmologists are often close to many religious and philosophical discussions it?s kind of mysteriously shivering although I was never buying the ?cultural part? of it.Unfortunately, I have to admit that this is quite true.

I am trying to trace an ancestor of mine a James Murry who at some point in time was the Publican of the Free Trade Inn.

Can any one point me in the right direction to any of James' family.

came upon this pub purely by chance as the pub we were going to eat in no longer served food. i had the lambs liver which was gorgeous, my partner had the roast beef and yorkshires which he said was also delicious. think the negative comments posted on here are unjustified, we were told initially there would be a 25 min wait but were happy that 5 mins later we were seated. well done to staff and chef we will most definately be coming back.

best pub lunch we've had in years!
came past on our way up to jedburgh and had a lovely lunch, i had lambs liver and my husband had the fish pie which was in our opinion the best pub lunch we've had in years. the place was beautifully lit up and fires were on. service was friendly and quick. we will definitely come back here as its rare to get such good food in pubs these days.

 shocking service
just got back from here and the service was shocking there was only 3 tables in and the waiter forgot everything we told him, from asking for garlic mayo that took 10 mins to come and we had already finished the meal by then, He also got the drink order wrong as well as we asked for ice cream with desert and got cream. food was good the bald waiter was shit and didnt have a clue what he was doing

 Brilliant local music venue
The Sc.hooner has one of the best programmes of weekend entertainment in north northumberland. Saturday night provides excellent singers whilst sunday is dedicated to local bands of varying kinds. They really do try to cater for everyone's taste. Keep up the good work Vic & Cath

 Menu looked great but...
We would love to have been ABLE eat here, but wheelchair access totally lacking. When I asked if there was a rear entrance for my sister instead of the double front step, I was told Well, we could lift the chair in over the steps -
I'm sorry but in this day and age that is undignified and unacceptable. We were then given the usual guff about it being a listed building.
Wake up and smell the coffee folks! You could have a wooden or metal ramp made that could be placed and removed as necessary. If Sandringham House could have disabled access for the Queen Mum, I'm sure a little country pub could do the same.
Or are you trying to make it deliberately difficult because Wheelchair Users aren't the sort of clientele that you want?

I had a lovely meal here with my partner a couple of weeks ago and we both thoroughly enjoyed ouselves and our meals. I had a garlic prawn starter which was absolutely lush! Wine was good too! We had been recommended by friends of ours and are looking forward to our next visit. The place is really cosy and inviting, I love the candles lit and the homeliness of the fireplace - it just makes the experience very comfortable and relaxing. Nice and friendly staff, attentive but not pushy which we hate! A nice change instead of going out in the hustle and bustle of town.

 A most pleasant experience
I popped in to the angel last summer just as they were finishing off and extension to their dining area. Myself and a few friends had just been on a camping trip and fancied something other than burgers. The Food we got was amazing, Gigantic carrots and delightful homemade chips accompanied my lovely lasagne. desert was also great and the staff were friendly. there was noone else in the pub which I was warey of at first but more fool them is my judgement

 Great Food and Entertainment
Recently ate at the Errington Arms just off the Stagshaw roundabout and have to say the food was great and they've adopted a credit crunch lunch price list. I notice a couple of negative comments but in my opinion totally unjustified as this place is great!
Wednesday, January 14, 2009Rating: rosettes

 Great Food
I have Just visited the Errington Arms and had an excellent meal. Ther new credit crunch menu is an innovation and winner in my view, with great choices. Well done Errington Arms. Strongly recommend.

 most expensive parking
This pub is a disgrace. It used to be a nice pub but from the outside it is just a mess now. My mum was helping me out by collecting my daughter from a nearby school and had arranged to meet a friend in there yesterday for tea. She had been been clamped as the owners assumed she wasn't a patron she had to pay 125 to be unclamped. Even though she was going to be using the facilities. If you do want to go here don't take your car it could be the most expensive trip to the pub you have had in a while. In fact take my advice and avoid this pub like the plague.

nothing short of a miracle, this place is truly a god send!! bar staff are undoubtebly the finest in the land!! Happen to catch a glimpse of the dashing chef, accompanied by 2 fine young gentleman, all sporting the stylish 'spicy n nicey' curry t-shirts. (the essential kitchen garment for all espiring young kitchen porters) Definitely would return, lovely friendly environment that made us feel very welcome. We have just had Sunday Lunch at this pub and it was delicious. Plenty of meat, fresh veg, mash and roast, Turkey with stuffing, sausages wrapped in bacon and a Yorky Pud too - very rare to get a yorky pud with turkey. The gravy was fab. Staff so accommodating even though they were rushed off their feet. First time here but will definitely be back.

 A Cracking Night
A crowd of us travelled to the Block and Tackle from Blyth last Saturday night to see a band called Platform 8. It's the first time we've been to the pub and we thought the atmosphere was absolutely brilliant. It was really busy but no problem getting served and the band were excellent. The only minor critism is that they could do with a dance floor as there were loads of people dancing at their tables. We would definately go back.

As it used to be !
Visited several times over a couple of weeks, and was relieved to find it was back to what it used to be. It is very very busy though.
Go early or miss out.
Friday, August 29, 2008Rating: rosettes

I live out of the area but I visit the Block and Tackle now and again When I first went there I was told of a really rough reputation. However I visited the pub to find that it was far from rough. The manager Scott seems to have a good grip of what it's about and the staff are spot on. I suppose when new staff are training they may not be fully on the ball but no problems on that issue. I would suggest going in some time when there's a band on. The atmosphere is really good.

 Will never visit again !!
Absolute shocking bar service, rudest staff I have ever encountered. Walked out unable to get served, whilst the staff giggled in the back kitchen about a poor man stood outside with his dog in the pouring rain. One member of staff even walked straight past the waiting bar customers to tell the tale in the Kitchen totally ignoring all those wanting service. Never again.

Has it regained it's former glory ?
Just heard that the pub is back in the hands of previous licensee. After the last change, it served the worst pub food I have ever had. Add unhelpfull staff, it became a place to avoid, and a place that rarely attracted return custom, you wouldn't want to experience it twice !
I look forward to trying it again although I vowed never to return!

In response to ML's comments. I can confirm that the Bank Top has been under new management since April 2007. Extensive internal improvements have been made and also the quality of service and drinks/snacks has been vastly improved. Please feel free to pop in and experience these for yourselves.
Thursday, July 10, 2008Rating: No rosettes

I feel I have to beg to differ from the opinion of the previous comment. I have recently been into the pub and have felt that the staff have changed so much in the last few weeks they dont seem to know what they are doing and they dont even make you feel welcome whereas the previous staff were lovely. There is very little atmosphere in the place now and you feel quite uncomfortable when in for a drink. The food we ordered had to returned 4 times and even when it came back it wasnt up to standard. I think this place has gone down in standard not up. Its a real pity that none of the staff or management seem to care.
Sunday, July 6, 2008Rating: rosettes

i went there last week and had the most amazing meal ! they have put there blackboards back up and changed the menu !! lush !! food lovely , staff nice and atmosphere great ! thank u !!
Friday, July 4, 2008Rating: rosettes

This pub has been run by Scott Hughes (the manager) for the last 2 yeras and since he has been in charge this have changed drastically, for the better I may add. The atmosphere is so much better, the pub is clean now and thefood is second to none. They have now lost Sky sports so no more football but they have got a late license and they have bands and groups on now. It is a delight to go to this pub now and the manager should be thanked for the huge change!!!

 It is a Swan?
When I read disgruntled's comments I wondered if I was heading for an ugly duckling rather than a swan. I don't know where disgruntled had been but it bore no comparison to the hotel I stayed at.
The Swan was certainly no ugly duckling with food, accommodation, staff, management and value all excellent. I shall certainly be back when I am next in the North East
Tuesday, February 20, 2007Rating: rosettes

We stayed here on friday 16th feb, we felt our stay was not worth the money and considered complaining until we had the embarrassing misfortune to witness the owner bellowing at another guest in the middle of our breakfast for complaining that her room was cold... As we are not confrontational people we just chose to leave as soon as possible. Our message to the owner is why would someone as ignorant and rude as she was choose to work within the hospitality industry??

 Lovely Stay
After reading the previous review I was a little worried about my stay, however my concerns were totally unfounded. The accomodation, service, food and general atmosphere at The Swan was excellent. There were no problem with the heating or hot water and the staff and management worked hard to make sure my stay was very pleasant.

As a single woman here on buisiness I was made to feel very welcome and I will certainly use The Swan on my next visit to the North East.

Highly recommended.

 Could have been good!
Used the hotel, heating only on from 4-8 at this time of the year was shocking. No hot water when trying to take a shower at 5pm. Food for set meal was good, and the service was fine. Didn't respond to complaints about accomodation. Proceeded to lie about reason for heating & hot water, only to contradict later. Certainly won't be returning.

 Superb Food Nice Atmosphere
My wife and I have recently returned here for our wedding anniversary meal. The staff were really pleasant and accommodating. The food was very nice with plenty to choose from and there was a wide range of beers and wines, with a friendly atmosphere around the bar area also. Only problem is the taxi fare back to Prudhoe but you can't win them all. Highly Recommended

 Comments from Alabama, USA
I really wish I could visit the Blake Arms, but I am in Alabama, USA, and it is quite a trek. My interest in the Blake is ---I have recently found out, that one of my relatives was the Innkeeper, in the period around 1861. I am very interested in finding out more about The Blake, and the local area around Seghill, where it seems some of my English ancestors came from. Anyone that can shed light on this subject, please contact me. I would really like to have a photo of the Blake, and would like to correspond with the current owner.

 Good food greaat service
Just returned home after a lovely meal at the wellington. I had a pork fillet medallion and it was absoloutley superb, no faults whatsoever. My wife had the scallops, which she said were lovely and then followed by a salmon with lime and coriander salsa which again was very nice. The service was excellent and all the staff were very helpful. Would reccommend to all

 New Improved Market Tavern
Market tavern has improved greatly since the new staff arrived. This is now my favourite place in the area to grab a quick drink or even spend the full evening. Well done.

 Current status?
Again, does anyone have a current assessment of this place? I'd like to go, but someone I know said the place was acceptable, comfortable, etc. but alot depends on the current tenant, doesn't it? Anyone out there with a moment to comment on the present experience? Thanks.

 Bank Top Now?
I've been to the Bank Top about 13 years ago and found it quaint, friendly, and with good service. I've notice now in 2006, some external improvements, but haven't been to update my previous experiences. Could someone assure me the quality hasn't deteriorated, and perhaps even improved. I'll check it out myself soon, definitely. Thank you, for your input.

Ripped off by totally uncompromising management
I booked an apartment at the Craster Arms and was quoted 85 for 5 people in the apartment. I arrived to be told that the apartments only slept 4 and we would need 2 apartments and a z bed at an extra charge. The manager was totally disinterested and just kept saying his staff would never have quoted us for 5 in one room. (In fact, I spoke to 2 different people and both quoted us the 85 and assured me that the apartment would be ok for 5) We ended up paying 185 for the night and were furious. The manager and owner would take no responsibility for their mistake. Appalling attitude and very unpleasant manager.

 red lion is worst pub
i have drank in the red lion in for the last few years and have to say that in the last 2 weeks the place has turned into a dive, all the decent original bar staff have gone and the place was dead , the d.j was a load of rubbish and the staff behind the bar were miserable and un friendly to be honest the place is not even worth a look in

Complained and the manageress was downright rude , save your money and avoid like the plague for a meal ! As for that woman - SACK HER ! She obviously has never heard of customer care !

 best pub ever
One of the best drinking holes in Bedlington, maybe a little more expensive but thats not their fault its the brewery and as for the comment above get yourself to movies pet its probably more your style!!The Market Tavern is a place for the older generation, theres folk bands on every 2nd and last friday of the month, food is going to be served but one of the finest chefs from the three horse shoes and there is a magician coming soon. watch this space as the market tavern is up and coming, and whats better is their is no teeny boppers and no idiots in!!!

Martin 'Miami Heat' Newton
Long gone, great place, jukebox made it god like!
Well, well, here it is with no comments... No surprise, its been closed for 3 years now! It was a great true drinkers pub. Yes you had other family tuned places were you could eat, (The Craster and Towers) but it was The Coach House were some of my best nights finished, just for out and out fun times with a late (sometimes 5/6am) lockin' most weekends...
It was a niche that Beadnell has now lost, and the nights in Beadnell have suffered in part. It seems as if the Summers and Winter weekend nights are never as good since it closed in about early Feb 03. However always a friendly place to be, really has been a case of never knew what an asset it was to my life and help me boost the drinking skills as a teen until till it was gone, always missed, never forgotten!!!

Class if you have had 10 pints
This is a pub, but wait, its more than that.... As you walk in, you will notice change, be it good or bad in your mind, one thing I know for sure is that the chef, a Mr David Hume is a legend.....
I also reckon that if myself and this certain chef were to team up, we would be up for a drink/pool challange from anyone in the world.... Fact we will not be beat!!!
But getting back to the pub... It is what YOU make it!!! So get the rounds in.....

i have been goin to slapz since i was 16, now 18 i would neva go back. there is just no atmosphere and it is full of under aged drinkers. the bouncers think they are the hardest men in town and treat other men like shit. the are perverts who always let under age girls in. dont go ther.
Tuesday, April 19, 2005Rating: rosettes

 night out at slap harrys
I have been going to slap harrys every weekend since it has opened, It used to be a really good nightclub but over the past couple of years there has been a new manager running the place and it has gone really downhill since then. The club is mainly full of underage drinkers of which the manager is aware of but still lets them in. The bouncers on the door are very arrogant and can get quite physical with both men and women which i think is unnacepptable in certain circumstances. I would not recommend this club to anyone who is over the age of 18 as it is more like a youthclub than a nightclub!

In my opinion, the best bar in berwick, but then I am bias.
From the outside an oldy worldy look but through the door is a modern bar with games room, lots of local characters, shed loads of atmosphere. Also amongst the cheapest prices in Berwick.
