Owners and staff make you feel welcome. We come here about once a month. Dont expect gourmet food - its bar food plain and simple, tasty and at a reasonable price. Fish is always perfectly cooked batter light and crisp. Exactly what we want when I cant be bothered to cook. Nice situation, plenty of sitting out space in beer garden on a nice day.

Devonshire Arms Badgerface Ulverston A proper real ale pub
A previous successful landlord is back behind the bar and has been for roughly 3 years now.The pub concentrates on bringing the best variety of real ales to the area, with 6 constantly changing guest beers. No food apart from usual bar snaps i'm afradi just beer. Plus this bank holiday weekend 4-7th May 2012, they have their annuall beer festival, which is always a great success. I think this year they have about 40+ real ales from all the over the country plus a variety of ciders. I hear as well they are having a traditional HOG ROAST which I am personally looking forward to.

Decided to eat here one sunday lunch with some friends will never again!!!!..... I had the vegetarian lasagne it was over cooked the garlic bread was cheap and nasty ok the wedges i ordered as a side order were ok. My friend had a small portion of scampi and i side of garlic mushrooms the chips were undercooked the peas were cold and like bullets and the garlic mushrooms were also cold in the middle. My other friend had a burger and chips and a side of onion rings, the onion rings arrived as a salad bowl the chips were again undercooked and the burger was like a rubber dog toy when we asked about the onion rings we were told they hadnt been ordered and we had to pay for them then the waiter left we worked out we had actually paid for them so called over another waitress and explained the problem to her after a few minutes she returned and told us they had pressed the wrong button on the till, once finished we sat with dirty plates for 15 minutes and surrounded by other empty tables with dirty plates i had to ask at the bar for our table to be cleared nobody had even checked our meal and so we complained and were given a £15 voucher and so here it goes again, two of us had the mega fish dish one had sausage and mash food seemed ok well that was until the next day when the two of us who had the fish dish had food poisoning!!!!! So to sum it up we will never ever eat here again!!!!!!!!

Rose & Crown kerry Ulverston
I used to love going to the rose and crown in fact is was one of my favourite pubs in Ulverston. Recently we went for dinner as a group of nine. we were not told when booking that we could only have a set amount of time at our table. Our waitress told us politely that they needed the table soon we complained as we had not been told the waitress came back and said that it was ok we could stay. About 5 minutes later an incredibly rude young woman stormed over and aggressively told us to move from the table her attitude was disgusting and when we told her this she then stormed off again very very unprofessional a very disappointing night and we will not be going there again.

We took my husband's parents out on Mother's Day 2009 along with our 18th month old son. It was an absolute shambles from start to finish, they got the table numbers mixed up, we waited an hour and a half for our meal, we were constantly told it was coming right now, they couldn't even provide us with a bread roll for our son who was ravenous and fed up of waiting, they got our drinks order wrong, twice! we could hear the chef screaming in the kitchen! We were not offered any compensation for this disaster. What was supposed to be a Mother's Day treat for myself and my mother-in-law was a disgrace, we have never been back there since.

Strawberry Hotel K Cunningham Barrow in Furness
Recently moved to Barrow and spent a few nights in the Strawberry for drinks and twice for dinner. Food was very average but the bar staff were very friendly so always went back for drinks. So Friday 20 Feb 09 was another night there for drinks, my partner were drinking Heiniken, which had an awful chemical taste, so after 1 of those, we changed to Becks Vier, which was very nice. So to finish a nice night off, i ordered 1 double bacardi with coke & 1 double vodka & diet coke. After the very friendly bar maid served me, £8.55 later with no till receipt, i let her keep the change, but as my partner & i took our first sip of our drinks, we discovered the mixer used in our drinks was flat! So i went to the bar and the bar maid was very obliging and then spoke to a man sitting at the bar with his wife and friend and who seemed quite drunk, he said to the bar maid that the mixer was postmix and is always like that! He would not look at me and was totally rude! The barmaid agreed with me that the drinks did not look as they should! Then my partner came to the bar very upset with this mans attitude and said we would like a refund, but this man refused and said we would need to buy bottles of coke to use with our drinks! So my partner walked out leaving our £10 drinks behind! I have never came accross such rude behaviour, almost sexist behaviour and i work i customer services myself! This man should not work in a pub and especially drink in front of his customers!

Lindale Inn Richard Grange over Sands Food Superb & Cask Beer Even Better
The Lindale is a excellent example of a traditional Lakeland Pub and Inn. Bags of character with the crackling open fire and spolit for choice with the food menu. All items where possible seemed to have been sourced using local produce, and the meal myself and my girlfriend (who is vegitarian) was absolutley devine. At reasonable prices too!! Would recommend and will be coing back when we visit the Lakes again. May even stay in the en-suite rooms they have above next time. Rich & Katie

Crofters Kim Barrow in Furness Terrible
Went for boyfriends birthday, cocktail menu was impressive but when I got to the bar I was told they don't do cocktails and had to buy each of the ingredients seperately (shot of vodka, shot of archers and fruit juice) and it cost approx £6 rather than the £2.95 advertised. The restaurant itself looked very nice, clean, bright and new. It was when I noticed the main meals were all £5.50 I started to get suspicious. I chose to order the sweet and sour chicken with chips and rice, my partner (is a veggie) ordered spicy veg chilli. VERY DISAPPOINTING. The s+s sauce was, I'm prettty sure, Uncle Bens, very watery and the chicken was in little cubes so rubbery I'm not sure if it was real! The rice was tasteless (as most rice is, but still.) And heavens only knows what the chef thought 'spicey veg chilli' means as what was served was sweet and sour sauce with a few extra veg and some chillis chucked in! By this point I was pretty gutted. The table behind me also complained and wanted to speak to the chef but were told he was too busy! The 'homemade banoffi' pie had the potential to cheer me up a bit, however when I ordered it (and my partner ordered a latte) I was told there would be a 15-20 min wait, does it take that long to slice some pie and squirt some cream? At busy times I wouldn't mind but it had passed serving time and was quietening down. Unfortunately the pie failed to cheer me up, the biscuit base was approx 1.5 inches thick (very sickly) the toffee was fine but there was only about 3 slices of banana on top. The portion of pie was prettty hefty, it was close to a quarter of a full one! Normally I wouldn't complain but I did feel sick about half way through. My partners latte arrived about 30 mins after ordering, by this point we had had enough and left and will not be returning. However when we told people of our bad experience they already seemed to know how rubbish the place was for food! Little bit embarassing on our part, should have researched first.

Best food I've had in ages. Had the salmon topped with green beans stir fried in chilli marmalade. Wonderful ! plus a selection of veg also cooked to perfection. Owl & The PussyCat Mrs Kay Cargan Barrow in Furness Chicken Meal Cold!
Attended for meal on Friday 9th Feb 2007 at 4.30pm, ordered the Cajan chicken with chips (no veg) and my husband ordered the large cheeseburger. There was only one poor girl trying to serve drinks aswell as take orders for meals, while 3 other girls laughed and joked with their mate who was there with her baby, and when my chicken came the chicken breast was STONE COLD (the chips were hot) and my husband's burger was only just warm. I left my chicken as I was too scared to eat it in case it gave me a bad tum! and didn't report it to the girl behind the bar, as the restaurant was filling up and she was TRYING to attend to everyone else. I will not be going to this establishment again as I feel it is run by young adults who lack standards, I was disgusted at the the 3 female staff members who were laughing and chatting in the corner leaving the one girl to serve at both areas. Even if these girls were on their break (which looked like only one was, and the others were starting at 5) they should have helped. As for the standard of food, it has definately dropped in the last few weeks. And chicken should definately be cooked so it is HOT!

Went to celebrate son,s 19th birthday and could not get him a drink because he had no ID with a photo on it, Mother and Father with him for confirmation birth certificate produced and college card but neither was good enough never again ruined the day. Also if you get the 10 oz Gammon make sure you get the peas with it as I never, did not complain at the time as was mad enough for son not getting served, was going to stay most of the night. If I had ordered the beer before the meal I would Have walked out there and then and dined somewhere else that would have served a 19 year old out for a drink on his birthday with his family.

the meals are fantastically fresh and theyre great value for money. everything is cooked from scratch including the home made beef burgers. the chips are the best ive ever tasted and i was suprised 2 see Andy (the licensee) peelin the potatoes there and then. the pasta carbonara (also freshly made) was made 2 my specification (without ham). great customer care and satisfaction and a fraction of the price that most places charge just 2 warm somethin up in a microwave!!

Crofters Haylz Barrow in Furness Great place to chill!
Nice, new and contemporary bar and restaurant. Beautiful food, would highly recommend the sunday lunch menu. Great quiz night, pool area and dart area. Staff and landlady very friendly. Wide variety of drinks avaiable and lush cocktails!!

Ship Inn Judith Barton Kirkby in Furness Non-Smoking village pub & hostel on estuary.
The Ship is a friendly South Lakeland village pub built in 1691, and retaining all of its character and charm. It has been entirely non-smoking since re-opening after a refurb. in Spring 2003. It serves excellent home cooked meals, with a special Chinese menu on Monday and Tuesday nights. Vegetarians & children are very well catered for. There is a dining room which is available for private functions, or for larger parties such as weddings, the whole pub can be taken over. The beer garden has views across the Duddon Estuary and is very peaceful. There is a 16 bed hostel attached, and breakfasts can be purchased by arrangement at the pub. A very entertaining fun quiz (cash prize) runs every Thursday night. Open from 4pm weekdays, 12md at weekends. Weekday lunches for 6 or more by prior arrangement. Great for walking/biking breaks, holidays, Christmas, New Year, functions, or a night out!

Union Inn wee willy winkee Ulverston HRH King Phil rocks the juke box...
Folicle free Phil and Dave still run a tight ship at the Union Inn. Always made to feel welcome by all regulars and most staff on most nights mostly. Juke box still free but sometimes free of the regular-crowd-pleasers in an attempt to bring the kids off the street to catch up on the hip, NOW sounds of 'The Only One LP in 'Em's' that them kids lap up. Shame.

This is a great pub, and although it used to attract males seeking male company it doesnt anymore, in fact I go there to stare at the barmaid, it's changed a lot since the last owners had it and worth coming to see the live music, and the barmaid.

I Used to come to the sheffield when I was a wee laddie before Andy and Brandy got it and it wasn't that good. Now I go almost every firday and saturday it has the best karaoke in town and the best, friendliest licencees barrow has to offer. Seriously if you want a decent karaoke in barrow come to the sheffield.

Manor Arms Hotel mick king Broughton in Furness great little boozer
Visited Broughton in Furness over the weekend September 16 to September 20. I stayed at the Black Cock Inn, but did most of my drinking at the Manor Arms and will definitely be booking in there on a future visit. What a great pub, a real regulars boozer with a terrific range of real ales at realistic prices and speciality lagers to boot.

Devonshire Arms David Townson Ulverston Excellent!
The Devonshire is a wonderful pub. The food is excellent, the atmosphere is wonderful, and the landlord and landlady (Vic and Hilary) are very welcoming and friendly. Apparently the beer choice is quite good too: I wouldn't now, as I never touch the stuff! The theme nights are fun too (quiz league Sunday, 3-D league Monday, quiz night Tuesday, ladies' darts league Thursday, men's darts league Friday, live music Saturday). Oh yes, have I mentioned the excellent food quality yet?

What a lovely pub; on the 1881 census it shows my gg gran and her sister and family who ran the pub, Jane and John Park. I would have liked to see what it was like in them days, but the Swan Inn is a lovely pub.
